Dawn Report 25 Apr 2004 10:57

Len I have bluebells in my garden. How do you tell that they are not English ones?. Love Sarah.

Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 25 Apr 2004 23:35

Sarah The Spanish one have upright stems and the larger flowers are arranged all round the stem. English ones droop over at the top and the flowers are to one side. The former have no smell whilst the English bluebell is perfumed. Unfortunately the two cross-pollinate and the Spanish are dominant so the native species is endangered. It is possible to buy nursery-bred bluebells but read the label. As has been said, it is illegal to take seeds or bulbs from the wild Len

trish we were going to go to weymouth tonight for the weekend but the weather is awful!! so we decided to stay at home and get a bit more of the garden done..lovely!!!! lol susie

Trish Report 30 Apr 2004 21:39

Susie, you've got the right idea I think - it's supposed to be a right mixture of weather this weekend. The M5 was a big parking area over the bridge about 5 this afternoon and it still looked heavy about 7ish. We would do some work in our garden but there's nothing to do unless we move a few pots around for a different look. Have you seen Sue's thread - "Wotcha cock"? I'm trying to think of other phrases but I can't - they're all normal to me until someone picks me up on something I say. lol

I had hoped to do some gardening today, Susie. Had some trellis delivered. Its still laying in my drive, soaking wet. I've stayed in all day, watching old videos. Len

trish no i havent read it yet but i will lol len we spent all last weekend clearing all the rubbish and having a good tidy up but still have a long way to go!! its surprising how untidy it gets over the winter, cos hubby doesnt like doing it anyway so getting him to do it when its winter is an impossibility lol he spent 1 1/2 hours queueing up to get in the dump last weekend,so he was really happy!!!! lol poor bloke susie

anyone out there this lovely morning?. The sun is out,it,s warming up ,and nearly all of the wifes flowers are out and the garden ,such as it is ,is a picture. It,s not very big ,about 30 ft by 14ft, all laid out with paving slabs, and has about two dozen large pots filled with a selection of spring and summer flowers. The back wall is covered by two intermingled clemantis which are now in full bloom, and we have about a dozen roses. When i don,t feel too good, i can sit in the garden and relax,i find it helps a lot.I hope we can rely on you green fingered ones to help plan the new garden once we get moved and settled in.Denis.

We don,t know yet Sarah ,as we are still waiting for a price on this house [com, purchase] but with what i think, i will be going to wales or cumbria ,afraid going back to wycombe is out of the question, out of my price range . Never mind though, i would settle for a lot closer to ,as i like to see rellies left in the area., and visit old nieghbours at the same time.It will have to be late in the yearas once iv,e had the op, which should be sometime next month ,iwon,t be in any state to go any where for a good few weeks.I have the puter anyway so i can nag you lot to fill the time in[nicely of course]Denis.

Hello again Denis We've been up to Ibstone this afternoon. I had to have a look at the bluebells....stunning!!! We took a few photos, but will have to see if they come out O.K. as Len says they don't photograph particularly well. If they do come out O.K., I'll send you a piccy!!! Love Sarah.

That's good Sarah. Guess I shall miss them this year. Someone at the camera club said the best light was bright, diffused - not direct sunlight - and use a light blue filter. len

Hello Len I took the pics on the digital camera. They seem to have come out O.K. I'll send you one or two. Why are you going to miss them this year? Love Sarah.
