Hi Derek

I'm looking forward to a reply to the request I made at the top of page 9 of this thread.

If your records cover Derby itself, I would love to know the parents & siblings for

Maria Cottrill born c1810 in Derby.

Thanks in anticipation.
Joy

Hello Joy..I only have the marriage records for the city of Derby itself..that needs a visit to Matlock Records office....which I have to do as so as the snow clears.
Your enquiry as to Maria Tucker took some time, bearing in mind that i do this work totally voluntarily, and whenever I can fit it in!! often way into the wee small hours.

Maria Tucker was noty born at Sandiacre but at Ilkeston

Daughter of John Tucker and Hannah. Ilkeston 16.091808
The records for ilkeston remain untranscribed and so they also need a trip to matlock.
John Tucker married Hannah Shipman at Ilkeston 24.03.1806

Thank you soooooo very much! You've confirmed what I suspected re the Tuckers.

Looks like a visit to Matlock when this weather's gone!

Joy........you asked about Maria Cottrill 1810 Derby..I don't have the parish records for the four main churches in derby.but I do have the marriages up to 1812..There are no Cottrill marriages ib St..Alkmund. St, Peter.Sy.Michael or All Saints in the few years prior to 1810

Which begs the question of what you actually mean IN Derby..as opposed to Derbyshire. There are so many parishes in and around Derby and i have some of them.
So have you any other details about Maria?????

I have found a maria Cottrill b 1810 married to Richard Kirkland in 1831.. but thats the only sniff I've had.........is he spelling of Cottrill negotiable??

Joy *The Carlos Cutie of Ilson* Report 12 Jan 2010 15:21

Hi Derek

1851 - Maria gives her place of birth as Selston, Derbyshire.
1861 - It's Derby, Derbyshire.
1871 - It's Selston, Derbyshire.

She Dies in 1873

I think the spelling of Cottrill is negotiable. I have baptisms for Maria an Richar's chilren, where the surname is spelt Cattrell/Cattrill/Cotrill.

Hi Derek

Thank you for further message. My husband is a x 3 Gt. Grandson of Samuel Maskery & Rebecca Rowlestone, and a x 4 Gt. Grandson of William Maskrey & Martha Slater.

We have never found a sibling to Samuel named Isaac, looking at the time gap between Samuel's birth and next child born 1770, then yes there is a breathing space for Martha to have had another child., have you found this Isaac in the Shirley Parish records please

The name Isaac is not a common one in the Maskrey family, and we have details of the line back from William to Richard (born 1400's in Hamstall Ridware).
So thank you for the offer but don't need it for the Maskrey family, unless you come across Samuel when doing look-ups for more deserving GR members.

But the names of some of Samuel's children are unusual, Scipio (Italian origin, and very rare in Italy), Solomon, there are not many of these in the family.

Do they occur in the Slater family, I don't have details of Martha's parents & grandparents, would be very pleased if you could let me have those when you have the time, thank you,.

Hi Joy..yes I noticed the Selston derbys bit..is it your Maria????
Trouble is that Selston is in Notts not derbys..I live 10 minutes from there..which is not to say that it wasn't in Derbys originally. Boundary changes are a nightmare..particularly arouns Ashbourne and in north Derbys.

Derek Report 12 Jan 2010 22:15

Hi Kathleen.........Isaac is genuine and was the second child..my previous message told you that like Samuel he does not appear to have been baptised in Shirley.........looks like the two first borns were baptised, if at all, in the same place and not at Shirley..but were indisputably sons of your William and martha.....

Yes, Maria is my 3xGreat-Grandmother via her marriage to Richard Kirkland. She's proving to be a nightmare to track back any further as are quite a few others..

Derek

Derek Report 12 Jan 2010 22:55

Hi Sharon..George HIBBARD married Mary TALLANT 09.07.1755...Eizabeth HIBBERD was baptised 22.09.1756.

There are no ther children of George and mary.I suspect because George was already 50 when Elizabeth was born.

The only George HIBBARD born at NWF was son of George and hannah (Nee Birch) married 17.07.1715 george baptised 30.07.1716

and the only Mary Tallent at NWF was baptised before 1700!!

unless you know better!! let me know.

Derek

Derek

Derek Report 12 Jan 2010 23:43

Hi Joy.......ok I have the full story except her baptism.
First she was born in 1810 Selston Nottinghamshire. She was never in Derby or anywhere near it.
Her first four children were born in mansfield Notts where she had married Richard Kirkland 12.07.1831..the remaining two children were born in Chesterfield where she lived the rest of her life until she died there in 1873.

Richard Kirkland was baptised at Papplewick Nottingham 17.02 1808 the son of William and Katherine Kirkland. He was a labourer, and latterly a Road labourer.

In 1851 He, Maria, and his six children are living at 42 Holywell St Chesterfield.
In 1861 He, Maria and three children are living at 259 Sheffield Road Chesterfield.
In 1871 they are all living at 6 Newbold Road Chesterfield with the addition of daughter Mary's two illegitimate children Maria aged 2 and Charles C aged1 ( Mary is a tailoress)

MARIA dies Chesterfield 1873 and

In 1881 Richard's eldest son William has taken over the Fountain Inn at 8 Saltergate Chesterfield as Beerhouse Keeper..amongst his Staff is his father Richard aged 73.

I suggest that perhaps maria Cottrill was never baptised......as was quite common...because to be honest nobody among my many sources and contacts has ever found her!!
Edit WILLIAM KIRKLAND married CATHERINE MOUNTAIN Papplewick Nottingham 13.11.1803
Hope this helps x

Hi Derek

Many thanks, wonder if Isaac was an infant death. As you say, think Samuel & Isaac's baptisms must be in another parish somewhere, perhaps one day either of us may find them.

Hi Sally..short of a visit to Matlock all I can confirm at this moment is:

WILLIAM PURDY baptised Heanor 22.04.1821
and
PHILIP NATHANIEL PURDY 04.07.1869.

According to the various censuses the children were born all over the place.at approximately the times you state.
