Can't find a burial for the above Beatrice in NSW.

Whereabouts in Qld were they in 1968?

Gina

Gina Report 12 Mar 2012 07:40

Australian Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980

Name: Alfred Arthur Salmon
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1968
State: Queensland
District: McPherson
Subdistrict: Cleveland (Gordon St. Ormiston)

(has wife Beatrice Eva)

Have just found out

Beatrice Eva Salmon was on her own, 1972 in Gordon St, Ormiston and in1980 she was at 198 Russell St, Cleveland.

This is info i have Cherilyn

Hmm might be worth checking with

http://www.mtthompsoncrem.com.au/driver.asp

and

http://www.greatsoutherngardens.com.au/

They seem to be the closest cemeteries to Ormiston/Cleveland. They are not in any of the ones covered by Brisbane City Council.

I would also suggest that you follow up the NSW death notice, just in case.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Gina

Gina Report 12 Mar 2012 22:51

Thanks Cherilyn. E-mailed both the above cemeteries and neither have Beatrice buried there. So i can only assume that between the 1980 electoral roll and the possible death in 1990, she must have moved again.

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 13 Mar 2012 09:17

Well the 1990 death was in NSW so it would have meant a big move! I don't suppose either of them had Alfred there?

Hi Cherilyn,

Could you please look up a death/burial for Phoebe Caroline Schmidt in NSW. She was born Phoebe Caroline Lovell 1830 NSW, married William Schmidt in 1853 not sure where but presumably NSW, hopefully you could look that up for me too. I'm assuming she died late 1800's early 1900's. I would be so grateful for any information you could find on her/them.

Regards,
Carol.

Gina

Gina Report 13 Mar 2012 14:29

No Cherilyn, on both the 1972 and 1980 electoral rolls she is on her own.

Hi Carol

Phoebe & Wm married in Victoria, not NSW.

Surname: SCHMIDT
Given Names: William
Event: M
Spouse Surname: LOVELL
Spouse Gvn Names: Phoebe Caroline
Year: 1853
Reg Number: 570

Two children born as SMITH, not SCHMIDT, father Wm, mother Phoebe LOVELL. No death found for first Wm.

Wm b. 1854 Ballarat
Wm Hy b. 1857 Ballarat

Possible death for Phoebe as SCHMIDT in 1886 in Ballarat Hospital aged 55 (reg 8055, parents not named, no middle name).

Two possible deaths for Wm as SCHMIDT - one aged 32 in 1864, born Prussia, parents not named (reg 8579). The other in 1882 in Ballarat aged 73, son of Hy & Christina (reg 4224).

Ballarat New Cemetery

SCHMIDT PHOEBE
Age: 50
Funeral: 26/7/1886
Area : COFEB Church Of England B
Section 7
Row :
Grave : 47

SCHMIDT WILLIAM
Age: 69
Funeral: 20/4/1882
Area : COFEB Church Of England B
Section : 7
Row :
Grave : 47

Though both ages are out compared to the register, I believe this is the same couple who had sons born in Ballarat as above.

Cherilyn Report 14 Mar 2012 02:51

Surname: SCHMIDT
Given Names: William
Age: 73
Place: Ballarat
Year: 1882
Reference: 455
Cause: Natural Causes
Occupation: Miner

Inquest concurs with age on registration, not cemetery record.

Nothing comes up for Wm on the mining accidents index. Unfortunately my goldfields hospital admissions index doesn't work with my new PC! (since Phoebe died in hospital)

I can't find marriages or deaths for sons, sorry, but hope this gives you something to go on with!

Gina Report 14 Mar 2012 07:28

Sorry Cherilyn, Alfred is abit of a mystery as i cannot even find a death for him. He is on the electoral roll 1968 but not with Beatrice in 1970 or 1980. He doesn't show on the Ryerson Index. Not sure where else to look.

Hi Cherilyn,

Thank you so much for all the info on Phoebe and William. I didn't know about the children so that was a lovely surprise. Thank you for taking the time searching, it is much appreciated.

Regards,
Carol. :-)

Cherilyn Report 18 Mar 2012 03:56

Hi Salimali

I found his burial, which provides further info:

Fawkner Memorial Park wishes to advise that the location of the buried remains of the late Thomas Rowlands aged 82 are located at Church Of England: Compartment M Grave 908. Burial 13/5/1959.

Also in this plot are Johanna ROWLANDS, aged 43, bur. 13/10/1926; James W ROWLANDS, aged 6, bur. 10/8/1931 and Thomas M ROWLANDS, aged 49, bur. 23/5/1962.

See www.fcmp.com.au/index.asp?page=deceasedstandard.asp

Unfortunately my disk for 1902-1914 no longer works, as this is when they would have married. But I did find births of 2 children:
Amelia Joyce 1917 Pt Mebourne (reg 31601)
Jas Wm 1919 Pt Melbourne (reg 22120)

Johanna's maiden name is shown as MANNUILL and MAUMILL respectively. No marriage found for Amelia in Victoria.

her death:

Surname: ROWLANDS
Given Names: Johanna
Father: Maumell Emanuel
Mother: Susan WILLIAMS
Death Place: COBURG
Age: 43
Year: 1926
Reg Number: 13415
Event: D

Son James Wm's death in 1931 shows him as age 11 (which fits above birth). No death for son Thos registered in Victoria in 1962.

Ah he died in NSW - I think his name must have been Thos Manuel [error as father's middle name] or possibly his 2nd name is Johanna's maiden name misspelled again!:
17496/1962 ROWLANDS THOMAS [f] THOMAS MANUEL [m] JOHANNA ADA [dsitrict] WOLLONGONG

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 18 Mar 2012 04:11

Here is the Maumill connection - this is the death of Johanna's brother:

Examiner (Launceston, Tas), Monday 15 October 1934
MAUMILL.---On October 13, 1934, at his late residence, Derby, Emanuel (Jack), the dearly beloved husband of Janet Maumill, and third eldest son of the late Emanuel and Susan Maumill, of Launceston, aged 62 years. Funeral held at Branxholm yesterday. Victorian papers please copy.

Jo[h]anna Ada MAUMILL was born in 1884 in Westbury, Tasmania.

Name also spelled MAWMILL and MORMELL. Her father Emanuel was born c1845 in Tasmania, son of Wm & Marian. He died in 1896 in Launceston. He married Susan WILLIAMS c1867. (He is on IGI).
