Hi Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 3 May 2012 11:31

Hi Jane, I'll try - where did George settle? What were their parents names? Do you have a death date or place for George?

Jane

Jane Report 3 May 2012 11:57

Thanks Cherilyn

George was b 1831 winteron Lincs. His parents were George Gray and Ann Holligsworth. They did not go to Australia. George b 1831 married Elizabeth Boreham1861 in Australia. George died in Caulfied 1/02/1902. Their first child Annie was born in Kilmore, Victoria in 1862.

Thankfully I have a lot of information on George but I cant find out what happend to James which is why I am wondering whether he emmigrated with his brother.

Thank you very much for looking

I guess this must be George?

The Argus, Monday 3 February 1902
GREY. —On the 1st February, 1902, at Malvern-grove, Caulfield, the Rev. George Grey, aged 70 years. For 48 years a minister of the Primitive Methodist Church.

It appears he was living in Garden St, South Yarra in 1896. In the 1860s he was minister at the Primitive Methodist Church in Kilmore. There is a photo of the Church here:
nla.gov.au/nla.cs-pa-http%253A%252F%252Fhandle.slv.vic.gov.au%252F10381%252F56799

He is interred at Melbourne General Cemetery.

Thanks Cherilyn

Yes that is my George you found. I will take a look at the picture of the church you gave me II'm not sure whether I've seen it or not.

I was just hoping That Jamse had emmigrated to Australia and that was the reason why I cant find him in England.

Thanks for trying

I am really stuck ~ The only Information I have is ~ George Buchanan and his wife's name was Olive lived in Seymour, Victoria Australia, they had one son ~ Bruce Oliver, died in the last year and two daughters, Shirley and Janet. George owned a business called Buchanan Motors ? in Seymour. George told me that his fathers name was George Horne [Horn} or Horne George [Not sure if the spelling is just horn or with a e?? and they came from Scotland. WOW I wish I had more to go on but that is all I have. George died in the late 1990's, in the state of Victoria. Trying to trace back. Thanks in advance :-)

Death Place: ASCO
Age: 89

Cherilyn Report 14 May 2012 05:53

An Olive BUCHANAN is buried at Seymour Cemetery. A headstone photo is available ny email. See www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ausvsac/Seymour.htm

This is probably her death:

Surname: BUCHANAN
Given Names: Olive
Father: Brown Robert
Mother: Mary Kell [surname may be BEWICK, see death below]
Death Place: SEYM
Age: 83
Year: 1985
Reg Number: 15493
Event: D

Her mother's death???

Surname: BROWN
Given Names: Mary Kell
Father: Bewick Joseph
Mother: Mary KELL
Death Place: FAIR
Age: 84
Year: 1962
Reg Number: 13866
Event: D

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 14 May 2012 05:55

Which leads me to :

Family Name: BUCHANAN
Given Name: Geo Mitchell
Spouse Family Name: BROWN
Spouse Given Name: Olive
Registration Year: 1927
Registration Number: 25
Event: M

and his WWII enlistment, confirming the Scottish origin:

BUCHANAN GEORGE MITCHELL : Service Number - 19254 : Date of birth - 27 Feb 1903 : Place of birth - GLASGOW SCOTLAND : Place of enlistment - MELBOURNE : Next of Kin - BUCHANAN OLIVE

Sorry that is about all I can find. George & Olive's marriage certificate would be probably the most useful, as next step.

Cindy

Cindy Report 14 May 2012 08:57

Thank you Cherilyn :-) I really appreciate all this. I just tried to search for George Mitchell's birth certificate in Scotland but it brought up nothing and I cannot find George and Olives marriage certificate and mostly because I cannot get the births and marriage registry site to work for me ~ the only one that is working is the NSW one.

When I read Georges middle name, I remembered it :-) Thank you :-)
