Hi Cherilyn,

Thank you very much for your help - this is exactly what I wanted.

I tried to find them this morning using the site mentioned in Tony's list but without success.

Hello Cherilyn,

Thank you for the site information.

I had another try last night using the first site you gave me and found Sarah Bonner aged 37 arriving on the "Juliet" 4 August 1874 with William aged 9. Now I have been informed by a descendant that she was born in Ireland in 1864 so I do not think that she was 37. Perhaps 27 or?? I know that they didn't always know just how old they were. Sometimes, as you know, the handwritten records are so faint that it is not always easy to read them.

Thank you once again for your kind help.

Cherilyn Report 14 Apr 2012 12:16

Hi Reece, I did initally consider that Sarah BONNER; she actually arrived with her husband George and a swag of children. Thought perhaps he died and she may have remarried...but she and George had several more children and that showed her maiden name (which eludes me presently); from here I found her death as Bonner, showing that mn. So not her I'm afraid.
It is possible it has been misspelled or mistranscribed.
OR she may have arrived first in NSW/Vic...or via NZ.

Hi again,
Reece,,,did Arthur William marry
1915/B17681 Morris Arthur William Gollan Nevenia

If so they are on NSW Elect Rolls and in the same area are an Arthur and Sarah MORRIS....(so the death above might just be coincidence)

Reece Report 15 Apr 2012 08:55

Cherilyn,
Many thanks for the information re Sarah Bonner - I did wonder, so now I know to look further for her in NSW as well as Qld.

Kellie,
Many thanks for that - I can confirm that Arthur William Morris did marry Nevenia Gollan 10 Nov 1915 Hamilton and I have one child b. Casino (still living) for them.

I will have to look at the indent for the "Scottish Knight" (if possible) to see if a place name is recorded before I do any more searching in the UK.

The name "Morris" is very widespread!

Many thanks.

Hya Reece,,
I know..
I guess I am too used to working with people and not against them...

Sorry Cherilyn...I did butt in again...

Now you think they are in NSW in 1930's might help follow them and find deaths etc...do not forget TROVE newspapers..

Really not interested in playing that game, Kellie [referring to vaguely snide comment about me while addressing Reece]...I tried to be polite. And I thought you didn't PM people?

Kellie

At the time you initially posted, it seemed you were researching old requests that I had been unable to assist, or where you felt you had additional info. And I did reply, if you check back, suggesting sending a PM instead (to past 'old' posters).

That is somewhat different to responding to requests before I have even had the opportunity to reply (and on which I may already be spending time).

Sorry that I did not make that more clear, I guess I didn't want to appear rude, and still don't. No offence intended.

P.S. This is my thread, in the sense that I started it off, and offered to do lookups. It seems reasonable therefore to assume that anyone who posts here is asking for help from me. Those who wish to ask for help from the wider GR community can, and do, start their own thread.

I don't think I am being too precious or unreasonable, regardless of what you think/insinuate. Anyone else reading this thread who thinks I am, please feel free to tell me so (or alternatively, offer support!)

Cherilyn Report 15 Apr 2012 11:28

I would say 1911 is too late for a child of Arthur snr and Sarah Ann (b. c1864) and that this is a child of this couple:

11806/1909 MORRIS ARTHUR / FAIRALL SARAH A / MURRUMBURRAH

The child born in 1911 in Bowral, fits with death of mother in Bowral (long way from Casino, which is nr the Qld border)?

459/1964 MORRIS SARAH ANN dau of JAMES & CAROLINE BOWRAL

Daughter Annie was definitely in Casino in 1911 as you say, so...did Arthur snr die there in 1933, son of Wm & Katherine?

Arthur & Sarah's daughter Sarah Jane m. Wm Jas KIRKHAM in 1910 in Casino (reg 1201). She died in Casino in 1964 (reg 36455); Wm died in Casino in 1948. They had a daughter named Emmeline Rose KIRKHAM in 1911 (m. Geo MESKELL 1937 Casino, d. 1984 Casino).

MORRIS is definitely a very common name, too easy to make leaps! Casino & District Family History Society might be helpful (if you are still hanging in there, Reece!)

Sorry Cherilyn,,,
I'm really not your competitor.....but what we both have access to may really kick some butt..
I am willing to sit back and wait.....

I think the child in 1911 ws to the son Arthur and a new wife...

Cherilyn,

you do a great job and have always said if you can not help and advised people on their next move...

I also did not want to do any bad mouthing about some members but someone is making it very difficult not to get their back up and have a shot back.....I have also said before maybe these boards aren't for you

we are all here to lend a hand if we can not to play school yard games!

and I don't think it is very nice to make Cheilyn's page your sounding board!

without prejudice...Helen. (just my opinion)

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK Cherilyn.xxx

EDIT...you know who you are...you can pm me any comments

Hello Cherilyn,

Very many thanks for all your help - yes, Herbert William Morris b. Casino is still living, is a widower, and is in Qld.

He has asked me for help as he thought he was descended from my Morris line but as I have found this is not correct I am trying, with your help, to find his ancestors. He is very grateful to all for the kind help given in finding them.

I looked again for Sarah Bonner's arrival in both NSW and Qld yesterday but without success.

I will have to leave it for awhile now as I am about to have visitors.

Very many thanks once again.
