Hi Corinne

There is no death in Vic for an adult Richard Stephens in 1864 (63 or 65). Where did you get the info of his death?

Hello Cherilyn
I got the dates from others doing the family but not sure where he died, since he was living in Melbourne just thought he probably died there as he was young. He must have been somewhere else.
Thankyou for your help.
Just thought if we could find his death certificate then may find about parents etc.

Unless he died later than they thought.

Hi again Corinne

I guess it is one of these? No reg as STEPHENS so it seems they never married. Still no death so perhaps the story that he died soon after the child was born was to 'save face'?

If he was unnamed on the birth, how do you know he was the child's father?

Hi Cherilyn

Looking for information as regards James Carr & Gladys Eva ********. Maiden name unknown.

I have this so far regards James..but cannot determine Glady's maiden name.

Living at 124 Park Road, Barton, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1930.
Living at 124 Park Road, Barton, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1933.
Living at Caldarra Ave, Engadine, New South Wales, Australia in 1933.
Living at 36 Wellington Road, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1936.
Living at 36 Wellington Road, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1937.
Living at 61 Louis Terrace, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1943.

A Stanley James Ernest Carr is found living with James at 61 Louis Terrace, Hurstville, New South Wales, Australia in 1943. I assume he is related, but I do not know how?.

Arrived in Liverpool,on the 19th Sep 1946 from Australia, via Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle and Port Tewfik, aboard RMS Orbita of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company.

Living at 483 Oxford Road, Reading, Berkshire, England in 1949.

Other relations and a marriage so as to find Glady's maiden name would be great!.

James & Gladys are parents of Leslie Alexander Carr, b1926 who married my aunt, Elizabeth (Bessie) Emma Wilson.

James & Gladys came to the UK in 1946. Leslie married Bessie in 1948, and emigrated back to Australia in 1960 with their 5 children.

Any additional info would be much appreciated. maybe Stanley is James father?. I believe Bessie has passed away..but not sure.

Thank You
Paul

Here are a couple of possibles for marriage and birth, seems a good match given birth of Stanley below...

Marriages Dec 1916 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carr James Hobbs Hereford 6a 1016
Hobbs Gladys E Carr Hereford 6a 1016

Births Dec 1895 (>99%)

Births Sep 1918 (>99%)

Carr Stanley J B Hobbs Plymouth 5b 331

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stanley J B could be a mistranscription for Stanley J E (ie Stanley James Ernest who was with them in electoral roll!)

James' WWII enlistment:
CARR JAMES : Service Number - N71522 : Date of birth - 07 Oct 1895 : Place of birth - BELGRAM ENGLAND : Place of enlistment - SYDNEY NSW : Next of Kin - CARR GLADYS

more to follow...

Marriages in NSW for son Stanley (Leslie's brother):

15480/1941 CARR STANLEY JAMES ERNEST POSNER DOREEN ROCKDALE

21786/1945 CARR STANLEY JAMES ERNEST MCCOY MAVIS JOY HURSTVILLE

No death found for Doreen so perhaps they divorced. This would explain why he was back home with his parents in 1943!

Wonder if Stanley & Mavis went back to the UK as well?

:-)
