Our favourite coffee shop is only 3 blocks from the medical clinic ........ so I went there after the last blood was taken
and had them make their "breakfast sandwich"
It was just after 11:00 am

that's a very long time to be without food!
My OH has never had to go that long .................. it's usually 8-10 hours without food BUT he does have to start the clean-out 2 days before, and live on clear soups (beef or chicken bouillon), jello and clear liquids for those 2 days.
This last time, for the first time, he had to keep away from RED food ............... so he couldn't have red jello, or cranberry juice.

Linda,
I doubt that the colonoscopy your OH is due to have tomorrow is going to be one of his most pleasant experiences but if approached in the right frame of mind it needn't be too bad.
I had one 8 years ago which was undertaken by a young female student under instruction from the consultant. After getting me to sign the consent form she announced, "I am now going to insert a gloved finger into your back passage."
I couldn't resist, I retorted instantly with the response Spike Milligan reportedly gave when undergoing his army medical. "And we have only just met"
I suspect that the consultant had heard it before as he roared with laughter as did the nurse present. Whether the student fully understood I don't know but it certainly relieved the tension. During the examination as she steered the endoscope I suddenly got a sharp pain. I said "I think you turned right when you should have turned left." This time she did laugh and even apologised for her driving.
Fortunately for me the procedure revealed that I was only suffering from Ulcerative Colonitis and not the dreaded big C which is what I feared might be the case. I hope that your OH is equally lucky.

re bosses
The summer I left high school, I got a job for 10 weeks as chambermaid at a small private hotel in Frinton-on-Sea.
It was my first time away from home, and little did I know what I was letting myself in for.
I arrived to find that the cook had walked out that morning, and her summer assistant was temporarily doing the job .............. 19 years old, just finished 1st at Catering College. They never hired a qualified cook, and D remained "temporary", although I don't think she ever received a raise in salary .... not qualified you see!
She was given 1 day off a week ...................... her "temporary" replacement on that day for the whole summer was the GARDENER. He could cook roast beef and bread and butter pudding ..... his mother had taught him when he was a boy.
There was a developmentally disabled young man who worked as "kitchen boy" ........... doing the heavy cleaning work, cleaning pans, etc. I think he also chopped veggies etc, under supervision.
The "waiters" were a husband and wife team, who often got drunk, and had to have their days off together.
My job turned out to be ......
........ chamber maiding starting at 6:30 am with early morning tea for the guests, ......... cleaning rooms and making beds until lunchtime, ......... washing up in the Still Room (china, cutlery and glasses) at breakfast, lunch and dinner, .......... waiting in the dining room along with the other chamber maid on the waiters' days off, ............ serving afternoon tea in the garden if guests wished it, and ........... turning down beds in the evening.
We turned the sheets at the weekend for guests who stayed 2 weeks.
THEN I discovered about the Manager/ Owner ........ a woman in her late 40s/early 50s.
She co-owned the hotel with her lover, who would come down from London on Friday for the weekend.
She would start drinking on Monday after he left, reach the peak on Wednesday, then start coming down so she would be sober when he arrived on Friday.
At the peak, she would do things like walk into the huge fridge and throw out ALL the food, leaving the cook nothing with which to make dinner. She also sacked a couple of people, but fortunately they came back!
Happy Days!!
On the good side ............. that is the summer when I discovered Jazz. There was a Jazz Festival at Clacton that summer, and a group of us would pile into cars and drive over there for the late show at 11 pm. I saw Humphrey Lyttleton, and Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine. There were a couple of others as well, but I don't remember their names.

Sylvia yes it is a long time without food.
I read the "instructions" which said if diabetic and controlled by medication and you are given an afternoon appt phone to change to a morning one. But OH wouldnt do it so I am a bit worried .
Jonesey OH has had one b4 when he was 1st diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma they are doing this one to clarify that the "spots" that showed up on his PET scan are nothing to worry about although his last scan showed they hadnt changed or spread so fingers crossed.
Sylvia that hotel was lucky to remain open.

Hope all goes well later today.
There is now apparently only 1 hotel in Frinton! Even the classic Grand Hotel has been turned into leasehold apartments.
The hotel I worked at is seemingly no longer there ............. probably apartments or demolished!

Where my OH goes for his colonoscopy they give him tea or coffee, lovely club sandwiches and a little packet with two biscuits in it, in the recovery room and they are kind enough to offer me coffee etc as well.
MY OH has them done regularly... I just hate the procedure leading up to it... It has put me right off going through the procedure.
My dad also used to have them as well.. after the first one and my daughter aged 14 -15 asked him what he had had done.. and he said that they had stuck a tube up his bum with a light on it to see if hat was on straight... he had two bowel cancer operations after this. Every time he had a colonoscopy he was as he would say as "silly as a two bob watch" the slight anaesthetic wouldn't half make him do some funny things.
We had to wait once whilst he got ready for bed and he took ages to take his socks off and he was singing away... then he went to the pantry (what a performance) and got out the brandy and poured himself a full glass of it.. my OH got worried about that.. I just took the glass and said I will carry it to your room.. he fell asleep without touching it. I put a paper napkin over it and he rang next day to thank me for being so thoughtful and leaving him a brandy for when he woke up.
Another time it was earlier in the day for the treatment and after a lot of tomfoolery and him pouring himself a cup of tea from a great height ..I still don't know how he managed to get all the tea in the cup.. then he went to bed woke up in the evening about 7.30pm it was still daylight so he showered, got dressed and was going to go across the road to get the morning paper.
I have no photos of him or his siblings when they were little and I have never seen a photo of his dad... who died when my father was 13. and had to go out to work and support his mother and six siblings.. he being the eldest boy.
He outlived the lot of them.

Good morning all !
Looks like Sylvia is missing this morning - hope she is O.K.
The warmers are on and I have done the scrambled eggs - sausages and bacon are sizzling and the mushrooms and tomatoes are under the grill.
I have set out the cereals, milk and juices and made some porridge as it is a cold wet 'summer's day here. ;-) :-D
Fresh fruits and yoghurts over there >>>>>>>
Can you make your own toast while I see if I can find some hams and cheeses and pick up some fresh rolls and croissants?
Back soon,
Dea Xxx <3

I am not sure whether I told y'all this but probably did...
My father died in Feb 1998 and what is called our income tax year ends 31 March.. so after he died I did his tax return and signed it on his behalf and explained that this was his final return and that he had died in Feb... End of story
No not end of story at all... the following year our inland revenue dept sent me a form and on it.. it said that his circumstances might have changed since the last return.
I got the form and in black felt tip I wrote across it in large letters... No he is still dead! and posted it back... now that's the end of story.
He would have found it hilarious..
