We got back quite late yesterday

not a very good weekend ...............................

pouring rain on Thursday ..... hate driving the freeway when it's doing that!

showers and COLD on Friday and Saturday

Lovely and sunny on Sunday driving home ............ so had to dig to the bottom of one of the bags to find the sun lotion!

Cabin broken into again ................. and, like last year, it was probably in the last couple of weeks. Once again doors were left wide open, but there was no sign of water damage OR of animal visits.

They took a variety of things, ranging from the old but great gas-powered lawn mower to 2 pairs of Wellington boots to long-handled garden spade and 2 rakes, but the piece de resistance was the one very old work shirt that was paint splattered and needing a wash (or disposal).

They missed the under-the-bed storage drawer that had OH's tools such as the Maul, Machete, 2 axes,(all good quality and expensive), the radio and the coffee thermos.

Changed our plans of "selling some time", to "get rid as soon as possible".

Spent Saturday packing the car with as much stuff as we could.

Drove back into the small town about 45 minutes too late to see a small Cessna plane take off from the airport, try to go under the overhead wires at the edge of the main road, but hit the telephone wires then a huge restaurant sign on the other side of the road, turn upside down, and slide across the parking lot until it hit a building.

All 3 people walked away with very minor injuries .............

......................... but it was the talk of the town!!!

I might be gone from GR on July 9

I received an email from GR this morning saying my membership would soon be due, and telling me the new rate.

Now, I have been a member of GR since 2004, and came under a grandfather clause in 2007 when ITV bought GR that stated my membership would remain at the rate I was then paying ........... £9.95 per year.

That was the case right up until I paid my dues last year.

The new cost they have quoted me is £15.95 for 12 months, Standard membership ............ that's a 63% increase

In fact, it is more than a 100% increase over last year because I was given a 20% "loyalty discount" that reduced the amount I paid to about £7.80

I DO know that this is much lower than newer members are paying ............... but I was NOT notified in advance

AND, as I have been seriously considering not renewing as a result of all the unrectified problems (and non-answers of GR staff) of the last year that have affected the Boards, this just might be the final straw!

I have 2 weeks to decide what I am going to do ........................... and am currently waiting for a response to the email I've sent to GR

OH has to phone the RCMP station in the town near the cabin to report the theft

We stopped by the station on Friday to report it ................. to find a notice on the door ................

It closes at 4 pm on Friday, and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

There was a phone number to use if you NEEDED to speak to a constable .................................

we decided that we did not NEED to speak to a policeman to report a burglary when we could only say "between August last year and June this year" (even though our suspicions are sometime in the last 2 weeks).

so he's got to phone and report it!

It will go into the annual report, and allows them to keep tabs on activity in "cabin country".

It was probably "kids" in their late teens/early 20s.

Sylvs

I responded to their offer to me offering me 20% discount asking them a couple of questions.... this happened a couple of weeks or so ago and they did not get back to me.

I sent Estelle an e-mail (well she gave me her address) asking questions etc and got no response.

I did get the standard response when I queried my RR (from Toots) and I immediately took them to task on that for not reading the entire thread etc.. and I then got an appreciation for my feedback. LOL

So I get offered a discount and you get offered an increase.. well that sounds fair.. do they not think that we might talk to each other and know what each other is being charged.... it should be like in any work situation where what happens is fair and seen to be fair by all.

Persie who will say whatever she feels like today.

Persephone

Persephone Report 12 Jun 2012 00:15

oh bum... sorry Sylvs

Meant to say something about your cabin being broken into yet again.. as I remember the last time...... but there is really nothing I can say other than hope the so called morons that did this run over their toes with the lawn mower.

When I worked at our main hospital there was this chap who had been stealing from staff cars in the carpark (way down the bottom of the path and more or less out of sight) and he fell down the bank and broke his leg and ended up in A & E... He had this big plastic bin bag full of all his goodies. One of the nurses on A & E saw her car radio in the bag.. and as she was the one to administer the needle for his pain she took great pleasure in ramming it home with a rather large needle which probably hurt more than his broken leg.

I think the problem with the sub goes back to last year ................ when they charged my card in US $, I complained, they reimbursed my card ............. and that reduced me to Free member status because they did it before charging the sub in £ sterling

I THOUGHT that the correspondence in and around that meant that things were sorted out, and I wouldn't have problems this year or in the future.

After all, it was all done and sorted out within 5 days of my sub due date.

Apparently not!

Although I am puzzled by the reference to the renewal being for 12 months.

I didn't think they had a 12 month sub at that price :-S

Sorry to hear about your Cabin Sylv

If it is going to be broken into every time you leave it, you may as well get rid...not much fun wondering what you are going to find everytime you take a break there.

When I changed my auto renew to single earlier this year they told me they were going to charge me £39 ( I think) instead of the normal £9.95 for 6 months...I ignored it and when I renewed it was the normal price....If they had a person checking these automated emails they would not have all these problems.

I complained about a thread that was rr'd and removed saying do they ever read them.....they told me they did......rubbish...there was one the other day on LR that was rr'd twice and both times reomoved...nothing wrong with it....think the poor poster has given up now

ja...x

Think we will all be joining you soon Persie

Hi Jax

yea, it was a bit of an unpleasant shock!

We were planning on getting it ready to sell, while still enjoying it for another couple of years.

But not now!

This morning (ie, Monday), OH had to phone the RCMP station in the town near the cabin to report the theft

This evening, he went out, and I got to talk to a very nice sounding Mountie :-D :-D :-D

We have to fax a list of what went missing, it will be circulated to members in case they come across stolen property ............ none of it was very expensive. No-one leaves "good" things in cabins ............... but OH does like good tools, so they are probably the most valuable.

It will go into the annual report, and allows them to keep tabs on activity in "cabin country".

I'll see what happens about the sub
