I have to go to the Cardiology department at the university hospital late morning ........ to be fitted with a 24 hour blood pressure monitor.

OH will take me, stay with me, then bring me home.

I presumably have to return on Thursday at about the same time.

On Friday, I will go early to have the fasting blood test.

lordy .......... it's all go!!! :-D

Good morning all :-)

You 'have' got a busy week ahead Sylvia !

Than you for the lovely breakfast <3 - I am having cheese and onion tarts, home-fried potatoes with garlic and bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and extra bacon on top.............................. delicious :-D :-D :-D

See you all later,

Dea Xxx

Thank you Sylvs.....all that work when you're so busy too!!! Why don't you pop in and see the podiatrist whilst you're at it - then you'd be almost 'top-to-toed'! :-D :-D

Poor Linds, that's a lot of money - home repairs do not come cheap do they ? :-)

I think we will be looking towards new double glazing in the not too distant future. Some of it 'mists' in patches........... :-( We do try and get jobs done as and when a) they need doing and b) when we can afford it. Such is life...... :-S

Looks as though we may be in for a nice day today............... :-D

Had to laugh at my grandson yesterday when I picked them up from school. He got into the back seat, took one look at the new Shaun the Sheep I have in the side window and went "aaaarrrrrghhhhhhh - that's gotta come down......." then he promptly slumped down in the seat and covered his head with his bag. It just wasn't 'cool' to be seen in a car with Shaun the Sheep peering out of the window you see!!!! I mean, what would one's mates think????? :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2012 08:25

Ohh dear!! - Poor Shaun!! :-0 :-D

My windows have almost all gone like that now Cynthia - some are just 'misted' and some of them look like there is water pouring down inside them and I can't see out :-(

The problem is, I down want to have all new windows put in as that means all the rooms will need re-recorating and I don't see the point of new frames when the old ones are prefectly good but finding someone to just replace the glass panels seems to be a problem - they all want to do the complete windows! :-(

I know it is possible though and now they have got so much worse I will have to start looking again properly so that I can get them done before the winter starts .

Gins- to be fair we have been in the house for nearly 30 years and this is the first time we have had to pay for the roof (any previous damage was storm damage and covered by insurance)

I can remember having to pay the "factor" for repairs done on our flat extortionate!

Dea shame your not nearby my son does windows etc (didn't when we did ours he was still at school)

Linda

Linda Report 5 Sep 2012 10:51

Sylvia You are busy this week :-)

Cynthia - poor shaun the sheep children are so funny at times :-D

GD today we are taking her to visit her GG parents later

Linda

Linda Report 5 Sep 2012 10:59

Gins - to be fair we have been lucky re any repairs. We were less paying a mortgage than my parents paid in rent and rates and at least we (our kids) will get the money when house is sold.

My parents eventually bought their council house after many years

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2012 14:53

AND the most important thing is that you feel 'secure' if you have your own home - you are 'in control' and can't be evicted or have the costs put up etc !!

Also - in a Council house (which my family were in), you have little choice as to where you live or whether you can stay there or not !

If you have bad neighbours you cannot escape from them whereas if you own your home you at least have the opportunity of selling up and moving !!

I am VERY lucky as I have lovely neighbours and have been here for over 30 years - I don't have any intention of moving (unless things dramatically change), and no-one can make me go !

Those of us who own our own homes, even though they come with a cost, are VERY lucky !!!

Dea Xxx

Gee

Gee Report 5 Sep 2012 15:18

I own about 85% of my home.........the bank own the rest, well at least until Ive finished paying the mortgage!!

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2012 15:34

Thankfully, we finished ours years ago Ginns !! - In the olden days, we started off at a VERY high interest rate - 15% + - every time it changed downwards we kept our payments the same and whenever we could we would increase them by £10 or £15 per month, or whatever we could afford (which was not much).

Anyway, this resulted in us completing our mortgage about 9 years early !!!

Heaven !!!..................

Dea Xxx

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2012 15:38

The strange thing was (and I don't really understand the logic of this) was that when we took out the last mortgage it was for an amount beyond the calculations which they had decided we could afford so we had to accept a rate of interest 1% higher than the norm at that time ! :-0 ;-) :-S

I still think that it was a 'rip-off' !!!

Dea Xxx

Gee

Gee Report 5 Sep 2012 15:52

Higher the risk Dea........higher the interest

All banks are rip offs :-|

Linda

Linda Report 5 Sep 2012 18:10

I can remember my M-I-L worrying when we took out our 1st mortgage (in the dark ages) I now know how she felt cos my sons mortgage is huge.

All I can say is thank god for the dark ages.

Work on roof all finished we are now looking at holiday prices :-)

Gee

Gee Report 5 Sep 2012 18:45

I bought the house in the 1990s....it was a lot of money, but still cheap for the area, about £25K less than the others, they thought there was a spring in the back garden...

.............nope, drains from another house up the hill! It was slug infested....big fat black ones :-0

Now, its worth 8 times more than I paid....how stoopid is that

I have a small mortgage, unlike kids these days

There was talk of a hundred year mortgage that parents left to their kids?

Dea

Dea Report 5 Sep 2012 19:31

I don't ever remember talk of a hundred year mortgage Ginns - are you sure that you didn't dream that one ???

It was always 25 years with me and it now seems to be 30 years for my son ???

Scarey !!!...........

So, how IS everyone tonight?

Just back in from baptism prep.......babies all over the place.....must be something in the water :-S

I felled over this afternoon........ :-(

Wouldn't care, but I was only crouched down using the dustpan and brush. Went to slide my foot forward and the sole of my slipper stuck and I went crashing forwards......slammed my temple and cheek onto the hard floor surface........ :-(

Not as bad as last time when I went full length and landed on my face but I think there will be a bruise on my temple tomorrow.......sheeeeesh....

Off to do some catching up now.....~~~~~

Gins
I have heard of a 100 year mortgage but thought that was in USA I do seem to recall people saying that was the way we were heading.
