sorry about forgetting to make breakfast :-(

I've been working the last few days trying to make a story out of one of OH's family lines. Last night, I decided to try to start something similar on mine .............. and I got deeply involved in finding information on the villages they lived in, the churches, etc etc ............... and finally went to bed about 1 am, having forgotten brekkers!

So glad that Dea and Cyn found the store place, and kept the hungry hordes fed

This morning, I spent a little time on the dark side, then OH came home from his 7 day check-up after the op ............... and we went straight out. Been out most of the afternoon as well.

His eye is doing well, but there is a little "junk" left in there, so he has an appointment at 8 am the day after he arrives back from China!

right .......... out for Friday evening Japanese

Good to see you back Sylvs......you DO get about a bit! ;-)

Thank you for breakfast......something with bacon please. Hmmmmm....such choice!

Dea, my dad wasn't on a very high income and my mum, despite the fact that she had MS, struggled out to work in order that I could go to Secretarial College. Looking back, I realise what an effort it must have been for her. Fortunately, she worked for a Doctor so I guess he understood.

I think I only knew of a couple of people who went to uni back then - and they always seemed very clever and a bit posh.

In fact, my oldest friend was one of them. She had the benefit of a private education, went to a Welsh, Uni married an American and has been a Professor of Biology at a Uni in the states for many a long year. We're still good friends despite the distance and the education! :-D

The whole family are brainy - husband is an eye surgeon, their daughter is a midwife and their son is a Professor of History.

Makes me feel like Little Orphan Annie :-( :-D ;-)

Looks as though it could be a nice day here..................see you later ~~~

Gee

Gee Report 20 Oct 2012 09:07

Egg butty.........yum, thanks Dea, the egg is running down me chin

No comment........on private education

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 20 Oct 2012 11:57

I don't have a problem with private education to be honest Gins.

If people can afford it, and they want to do what they think is best for their children, why not?

I couldn't afford it for my children, but I was not so selfish as to begrudge those who could. Neither do I begrudge those who have more money than we do......a little extra would be nice but we are grateful for what we have. There are far more important things in life than money.

It isn't always a 'class divide' issue either. My friend's family weren't a 'posh' family really - as in coming from landed gentry - her father was just a very clever engineer who survived the holocaust and worked hard for a living. I guess he wanted his daughter to have the benefits which had been denied to him.

We also sacrificed to send our son to University and he went just as the fees for attending hit. Our youngest son also went to University (oldest wasnt interested just wanted to get out and start earning)

They were the first from either side of the family to attend University.

But thats what we do as parernts isnt it?

I remembeer my Dad arguing with my maternal gran when I wanted to stay on at school. She thought it was a waste of time a girl staying on as she would just get married and have a family and stop work. My Dad said no if I had a good education I was set for life and if I wanted to stay at school I would end of discussion.

Long after I had my family I went back to college and did a HNC in counselling and me old Dad was so chuffed to attend my graduation ceremony.
