Morning all. Thank you for breakfast Sylvia...am now ready to face the day!

Thanks for the info on the Lee chappie Fans.

Dea, that was interesting about Walter. I knew I had another Walter Goodwin in my tree born around the same time but when I have checked, he is Walter Lewis Goodwin born 1894 (Thomas's newphew) and he's sorted.

It doesn't mean that the one you found isn't related though - the Goodwins certainly knew how to breed and I am now wondering if he is possibly Thomas' elder son from another marriage. Haven't looked at this lot for a while and I see that I have Thomas down as 'Widower' on his marriage. Hey ho....another trail to follow. Thanks my friend.

Re all the chaos on the site.......I personally think it would be a good thing to stick together and weather the storm.......it will surely pass. There are some brill friendships on here (not just this thread) and it would be a shame to lose all that. Just my opinon really - passing the superglue round.

Thank you Sylvia for the names of the other sites I will check them out:)

My membership expires in April 2011 so I will see if things improve. As you say Cynthia it would be ashamed to lose the friendships forged on GR.

I think Cynthia, you should receive free subscriptions because without your sterling work looking after the newbies many most probably would have given up

Sick sick and tired of this cr#p system.

When you search for someone...you finish and then click the TTF board...

....it then takes you to the Surname board. I have just added a response to a three year old post without realising

I agree Cynthia, we should all try to 'weather the storm' . We work as a good 'Team' on here and have made many friends.

My intention IS to stay, however, if they continue to make a 'hash' of it, I may well have to reconsider.

I have been on here for a very long time and, on the whole, I prefer it to all the other sites.

Interestingly, re the breakaway group who formed what is now FTF - I was one of that original group (a founder member you might say), and indeed, when it came to choosing the original name for the site, suggestions were put forward and voted upon and it was my suggestion of 'Genealogists XGR' which was chosen - I felt quite honoured.

This was later changed to Family Tree Forum and the site is still 'going strong'

I did eventually come back here though - This site has (or did have) something 'extra' that draw's you back!

I am sure that will return, though I do hope they get it sorted soon, then we can all settle down and actually 'enjoy' this hobby again.

Me too Cynths.

I think I will go and do a bit of painting, then I can sit and watch it dry !!

SUCH fun! (tee hee)

P.S. - To Tooty,

You will find the 'filter thingy' comes on every time you go back to the boards at the moment so you will have to check it and turn it off each time or you will get all the old threads for the filtered name !!

I DO NOT like this.... i cannot navigate anywhere!!!.... i used the last post first option now that's gone.... using a shortcut link doesn't work (sends me back to the main community page) and there is only 1 thread in my TTF list.

So i know how to solve the TTF problem, now....but what about the rest??

This truely is terrible, GR you've boken the bits that didn't need fixing!! and made the rest unusable!!! lol

I put a thread on the Clinic board this morning asking who should notify newbies of their replies if they don't return.......me or the 'officials'. It's been deleted.....so I've gone back and asked where it is.

Right going to have a mooch in some parish records..........

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hiya Trace.......it's stopped any boredom on the boards I can tell you that!!
Jonesey Request Review Five Hours Ago
Two days in and I note that the "Help Clinic" is currently showing just 19 enquiries. Out of the 19 there are 11 enquiries which have been posted by members who I recognise as regular helpers on other GR message boards.
Could it be that GR are missing their target audience?
Cynical old me.
SylviaInCanada Request Review Five Hours Ago
target audience according to Estelle was
newbies
so yes, they are mssing their target
OR
the "oldies" are taking the mickey!
:)))
Now would any of us do THAT???Tuts...
After posting on a thread just click on My Thread Participation and then any board you want and you wont need to uncheck the stupid filter thing..
Going back to page one now as I have edited.
