SUSAN
sorry I cannot be sure of the baptism of John Grant who married Elizabeth Lines producing William Grant baptised 1793
He may be baptised in 1749 in Wroxton
or he could be baptised in Banbury St Mary 9/10/1763 son of Timothy junior a Sawyer and Elizabeth
I am hoping for a reply to my request on the Records Board for a look up on the National Burial Index as I cannot find a burial in Wroxton for John Grant, so thus I do not have an age for him at death to be able to decide which baptism is his.

VALERIE
there is a gap between 1666 to 1700 in the Forest Hill registers, so cannot go back further with reliability.

Hello again Margaret, i am soo sorry i didnt get back to you yesterday. I have been beside myself wondering if you were thinking "well how ungrateful is she!!" I lost internet connection yesteday afternoon and it has only just been resumed. I am thrilled with all your information regarding the Grants as i didnt believe for one minute that i would ever be able to trace them back that far. I have googled Wroxton and what a beautiful place it is.It is deffinetly on my "places to go" diary for the summer. Your info also shows me that i have somehow made a horrible mistake in my tree regarding the father of David Grants wife, Sarah Whing. (The Whings are sometimes transribed as Wing) Your info tells me her father was Joseph and i have her parents as Silvester Wing 1790 Wroxton and Alice Sabin 1790 Chacombe, Northants. GGGRRR! I have yet to discover how i came to that conclusion and as Familysearch is quite generous with info regarding the Whings, i wonder if you would be kind enough to shed a little more light regarding Sarah Whings family in the hope that i will be able to rectify my mistake! Thankyou so much for your valuble time Margaret .... Susan.

P.S. I have gone back 6 generations on the Whings side... and it would appear to be a lot of stuff and nonsence!! Oh well, you live and learn i suppose. (Says i through gritted teeth!) Susan.

Hi Margaret, PHEW!!! how lucky am i? all i need to do is swap places between Silvester and Joseph and i am done! Not too much of a disaster after all. If by not telling me the maiden name of Joseph's wife Mary causes you a sleepless night, please feel free to add it to your list of "Things to do tomorrow before deleting 3700 from my tree!" Or, if you think i am milking it, please feel free to tell me to go stick my head in a cow patt!!.... You are fabulous Margaret, thank goodness for people like you ... Susan x

Margaret

Margaret Report 20 Mar 2010 10:03

KATHLEEN
The children Martha and John Brittain are the children of Elizabeth, but not necessarily the children of her husband Woodbridge. Although when John Brittain marries he says that Woodbridge is his father. Better put them down as just children of Elizabeth until you know for certain who their father is.

KATHLEEN ANN
1841 census St Helens Berkshire (Abingdon)
Jonathan Britton 40 yrs Policeman born Berks
Esther 40 born Berks
Ann 15 ditto
Sarah 17 ditto
William 15 ditto
Francis 13 ditto

I think this is your Sarah Brittain, who married Woodbridge, and had the illegitimate John and Martha Brittain, John being your ancestor. Oxfordshire Family History Society has booklets with regard to Policemen in Oxfordshire if you go to their site, google it, you can buy online if you wish to follow this line. Hope this helps.
