My Great-Grandfather is/was Bert Wicks. He was born in 1885 and lived in Luton. I do not have the name of his wife, and wondered if anybody might be able to help??? I'd really appreciate it if anybody could find a lead. cheers

any idea if he was married by 1901? was he realy a 'Bert' - or Albert or Herbert? any idea where he was born? Otherwise, did he have brothers and sisters jess

Adam , this is the same family just one in 1891 and one in 1901. the place name change is called a mistranscription. We'll have to hope he married early for it to be on ancestry

Adam- these are the age they were in 1901. Ada Wicks age 45 is his mother Annie Wicks aged 18- his sister Arthur Wicks aged 9 his brother Bert Wicks 13 Frederick Wicks aged 17 - another brother George Wicks aged 42 - his father Horace Wicks aged 8 - another brother

bert's daughter is dorothy wicks, born 1919, died 1984...will this help find his wife(her mother)?

Definately Adam! Dorothies birth certificate will give her Mum's name AND Maiden name, as well as actual date of birth and address where she was born. You will need to search the year of her birth on 1837online. You need to register and then purchase £5 of credit to look for her ...unless you KNOW her birth date ? No Adam, Unfortunately FreeBMD only goes upto 1911 at the moment, you definately need 1837online. Do you KNOW her birth date ? and WHERE she was born ? Dancer x

Adam, Could Dorothy have been born in Colchester ? There is a Dorothy E Wicks b Colchester in Sept qtr 1919. 4a, 1242. Mothers maiden name = Clay Dec qtr isn't available to me for some reason. I've NOT checked March or June qtrs Dancer x

Adam Found this on 1837 WICKS Dorothy R Mother maiden name Simpkins Quarter Dec 1918 District Luton Vol 3B Page 527 If you think this could be your Dorothy you could send for her birth certificate to find out who the parents were. Victor

colchester, i couldn't be sure of but i doubt....victor, urs is promising.....what is the year attributed to though?
