Hi Spruce, I am further south than you, towards the Notts. border, but Derby is our nearest city. It has been drizzling here for a while, but it must be a tad warmer because everything is slushy now.
Take care everyone

Sheffield.

Weather doing absolutely nothing,no sun,no snow,no rain, but it does seem to be thawing a little.

I am fed up of hearing the local townies winging that the council havn't cleared the side roads. Where I come from,Chesterfield,we all used to get off our backsides and clear the bit in front of our houses, and the younger ones cleared for the elderly.

Yesterday went arse over tip in front of the Co-op where it HAD been cleared, trust me. No broken bones but bruised knees.

Cats still wont venture out.

Spruce Spring Clean,I used to live on the white city,in Brimmington.small world.

It's getting slightly warmer in the North East, it was -8 yesterday but it's -2 today and no extra snow today.

The icicles are getting a bit smaller.

Annina.

Where I live we've had a lot of heavy snow, and until I married and moved here I lived in a small country village where everyone helped each other out in the bad weather or in the summer:)
Hubby lived in a small town where there was a good community spirit they did the same.

We still both help out our neighbours when needed, we clear the elderly's drives, shop for them if they want, they all have my tel no.

I suppose I'm a sort of townie now ....
It still doesn't stop me whinging about the lack of gritting the council do.. the cost of our council tax is enormous , We live up very steep hill from the main road and have 3 members of the family that have to get to work.
We clear our drives and the roads outside.

My father lived in the same little village from the day he was born til the day he died at 90 , he had all his marbles and boy did he complain about the lack of snow clearing that the council did... his council tax was even higher than mine.
Perhaps it's just 'townies' that grizzle on the boards us rurals are used to the inconvenience , it's bl**dy annoying but more used to it and don't post about it.

Sorry you fell, glad it was only bruising , still hurts tho I suspect !

Sandie.

Spring Clean, you are posher than me then,as you know, the white city,as we called it,is a coal board estate built in the 50s. Which school did you attend? I went to Hollingwood girls,I think it is a Barratt estate now.

Sheffield ,it is now drizzling, and I hope that it dosn't freeze and make things worse.

Traffic seems to be moving around better, but no busses as yet on our route.

Hi Annina

I was not living on the common, when i was school age. I do remember the school though, it is a housing estate now. I have spent one or two nights, at the Hollingwood Hotel just above where the school was.

Rain stopped here about a hour ago, just seen the weather and they have given fog and ice for derbyshire. Take care all

Not long returned home from Ashford, Kent. It rained much of the day and roads are now clear, but plenty of snow showing on north-facing banks of the motorway.(M20)
Quite mild with no biting wind, so shopping was OK.

Hi folks, snow here in Sheffield is thawing at last.

The wingers that I was refering to,seem to be local able bodied men.who couldn't drive to the betting shop. They don't appear to have gainful employment, and expect everything served on a plate.

They are usually outside the betting shop or in the newsagents buying fags and scratchcards.
We have all met them wherever we live, the world owes them a living don't you know!

Beautiful day in Herefordshire. Very cold but sunny and at last most of the snow has gone from the roads were the sun shines and melts them. To help getting to work tomorrow took a wheelbarrow and used the grit in the road bins to help on the steepest hill which is always in the shade.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Snow in the fields but the sheep still preferring to scuffle for grass to the hay

Just been shovelling the snow off the drive with my snow scooper, the tracks either side were clear for the cars, but if ..when it freezes the depth of the snow may damage the underside of the cars.
