Tina was asking about Fluoxetine - well it is in the same family as Citalopram, Sertraline and Paroxetine if that is any help. I have a BNF book which is the one doctors use to prescribe drugs

Sue Report 27 Jan 2008 22:21

I had a complete breakdown 2004 after losing two brothers and a sister in 12 weeks. I still take antidepressants and have bouts of 'why am I bothering' days. My kids keep me going frankly and although I adore hubby he doesn't understand what depression is all about.

Most of my friends have also gone through something related to depression, some for no particular reason. I think that the lives we lead certainly don't help with the everyday stress. If I could afford to ditch work I would cos that gives me headaches every

Sue xx

Edited to add: my mother died when I was 8, I had 2 step mothers from hell (no joke). My father didn't like any of his children (no one actually grieved when he died) and all five children were left with one sort of compulsive disorder, alcholol, gambling, etc. and all of us suffered with mental problems at one time or other. I can't say he was to blame but he certainly didn't help!

Carole Report 27 Jan 2008 23:01

Sue that is so sad.

I'd also give up work if I could. But on the other hand it does force me out of bed and I have to get motivated. I was on holiday last week and hardly moved out of the house. But I did talk to people on here! I was so ill five months ago I was like a zombie.

I was a very sensitive child ( still am) and took any comment to heart. My parents didn't notice this. My sister was always the one who was pretty, funny, cute, their rosebud! I was just there, never seemed to hear nice things about me except I was a good girl. I was too frightened to be anything other!! I was a nervouse wreck really. Now I'm scared of my own shadow!

The good days are getting more than the bad ones now.

But agree it's life style that is so stressful, never seem to get anything done to a high enough standard cos there is always so many other things need doing, and not enough time.

Ann I read what you put and think I wish I thought of that. Maybe when my head is clearer I will think faster, and be of more help to others. xx

YorkshireCaz Report 28 Jan 2008 06:54

Hello everyone, never got to put pooter on yesterday after early morning, so surprised at how many have added. There are a lot of troubled people out there, as well as being an invisible illness it's also a scary one, I thought I was losing my mind at one point. I got frightened of people, wouldn't go out unless forced, and lost interest in my grandchildren, which to anyone who has grandchildren will know that's nearly impossible. Thanks to my husband who noticed I never smiled, never played practical jokes on him (childish but I can't resist), lost interest in my family tree which usually I worked on every day. He knew there was something terribly wrong and took steps to help me. I had no idea, I thought I was just fed up with all my illnesses piling up one on top of another. So please, anyone who feels down or if other people tell you to see a doctor, please go. I have a long way to go yet but my black cloud is getting lighter.
I wish I could wave a magic wand for you all, unfortunately I can't.

Caz xx

Carole Report 28 Jan 2008 07:27

morning Caz. I too thought I was loosing my mind a few years ago. We had cable being laid everywhere and the vans were left over night on some empty land near us. So the vans were always everywhere bright orange everywhere! I was convinced it was really aliens starting to take over. Why in Lincoln near me didn't come into it! I knew not to tell anyone or I thought I'd be dragged away. But I knew what the orange vans were up to ( aliens) I don't mind telling people now but would never had said anything at the time xxx

Hi Carole, Caz and Jules!! As you say, hopefully a good start to the week for all and to those of you who have PROMISED to go and see your GP, good on you and make sure you go or we'll be haunting you - not a threat, a promise. YorkshireCaz Report 28 Jan 2008 08:32

Morning Ann and Jules, so pleased for you Jules that you had a good day yesterday, and you may just be feeling bright and confident because you made your mind up to ring doctors, that's how it works. Will be waiting for report.

AnnCardiff Report 28 Jan 2008 08:34

Too right Caz - we are all waiting for feedback!!

Patricia Report 28 Jan 2008 08:46

for those looking to see the Dr today good luck were all with you
just a quick word to those who dont quite manage it this morning tomorrow is another day you have not failed have not let anyone down and have already made the first step just by being here talking about it and no longer being alone.
Pat whos shamefully admits she is off for the shower she has avoided for 2 days :(

AnnCardiff Report 28 Jan 2008 09:03

Well said Pat!!

YorkshireCaz Report 28 Jan 2008 09:06

Patricia have you thought about asking your doctor if he can give you anything to just help you through the panic attacks. It won't be anything like what we are taking but might calm you down a bit, or the rescue remedy people have mentioned.
We have no failures on here, proved by joining in on thread, some just take longer than others, but we will all get there in the end because we are all there for each other now. It feels so good.

Caz xx
