Ok Gooner..back on the treadwheel...........

LUCY HOUGH married Thomas Allen 31.05.1852 St Werbergh Derby...and inspired what will become my nightmare about Pork Butchers!!

She was the daughter of JOHN HOUGH and ANN KIRKLAND who married at Wirksworth 14.08.1820..she was their youngest child born 29.05.1832..baptised at St.Oswald Ashbourne 17.06.1832........

John HOUGH father of \Lucy and grandfather to the pork Butcher brigade was baptised at Osmaston by Derby 03.04.1794..........for your information there is a clear link because the Ashbourne Road out of Derby leads to osmaston..then Wirksworth and thence to Ashbourne....for those wot don't have the local knowledge that I do!!

John Hough 03.04.1794 was one of four children of JOHN HOUGH who married JANE EDGE at St Werbergh's 17.01.1791.

The siblings of John Hough 1794 were:-

Eleanor Hough 31.07.1792
Thomas 13.01.1796
Joseph 11.09.1797 who married Hannah Bentley 12.02.1824..which leads us into another can of worms that has been researched for somebody else.

Night night LA !!!

Hi Derek,
That's OK - I can see you must be one very busy person - keep you out of trouble though - or does it??
Verna ;-)

Derek

Derek Report 15 Nov 2011 13:02

Hello Verna...having trouble with your Leatherlands..........no problem with tracing them on the Census Records..and HORACE LEATHERLAND 1876 appears to be the ony child of John and Hannah..Have found a marriage for John and Hannah Parkin Basford Nottingham for AMJ 1873

This Basford thing is continually confusing ..Basford is part of Nottingham..and I live there!!..but in the 19th century BASFOD was a registration district for that bit of Derbyshire that includes Heanor/Langley Mill.Codnor/Loscoe.Ilkeston..and others in that little pocket just West of what is now the A610 north to Ripley.........so the marriage of John and Hannah is right.

The main problem is, that although i have the Parish Records for Heanor and surrounds..I can find no record of either Births or marriages for this family........on the 1881 census they are living in Lee Lane Heanor (which still exists, as do some of the older houses)..and the Heanor PR's show a PARKIN family living there 1850 ish..but no Hannah...
The ony thing i can surmise is that they were noon-conformists...any ideas??
EDIT 4.06pm Tuesday............things have moved on since I wrote this..and I have pretty well the full story.......they all came from Eastwood notts originally..which is half a mile from Langley Mill..the other side of the A610..but in NOTTS!!.......so I'll get back to you later when I know you've seen this.

One thing..HORACE Leatherland 1876 was, you say your grandfather?? I have him on the 1911 Census still single..but then I found a marriage Second Qtr 1911..to either Florrie Stirland..or to Harriet A Jackson....I suspect its your Harriet A???? perhaps you can tell me.

Derek.

Verna Report 15 Nov 2011 19:37

Hello Derek,
Morning Derek - Yes, John married Hannah Parkin and Horace was my grandad, he was an only child (strange for those times really) he died in 1962. He married Harriet Ann my granny - I think they had a child Verna born in 1909 or 1910 - I guess she would have been called Verna Jackson, she died in 1926ish? as Verna Leatherland. After that they had Samuel, Arnold, Mildred (my mum) and John, known as Jack. I seem to remember hearing that they had another boy who died very young also called John, before uncle Jack - I think that was 1918/19? I don't know about being non-conformists - is that the same as primitive methodists? My mum had told me that they were Prims!
Can you find out where JOHN LEATHERLAND came from before he married HANNAH PARKIN? Did he come from Eastwood too?
I know my grandad HORACE had two houses built on Hands Road called Tantum Cottage about 1915. One for the family and one for his mother but his mother ended up living with him and family and the house next door went to her sister??? The name Purdy comes up - Lucy Jane is a name I remember from childhood in the 50's. I think she lived next door on Hands Lane.
Anyway, many thanks and good luck, I look forward to the next saga.
Verna

Hi Verna.........glad i got the wife of Horace right!! there were two options on the page..but I was happy you'd know the right one. I won't be finding anything for you after that, because my "expertise" ends at 1911.

The good news is that i have as complete a picture as you could ever get from 1791.......and i have to say I'm uite chuffed with it.........

Here's the story..bare bones..because at each stage there are plenty of siblings which you can have if you want them

JOHN Leatherland/Litherland..dependng on transcription b 1791 Eastwood Notts..died Eastwood 28.02.1855....marries PHILLIS BROWN
(b.25.03.1792 Eastwood)..married 07.11.1813 again at Eastwood
Phillis Brown was the daughter of Samuel Brown and Elizabeth nee Carlin, who married 17.07.1783

One of their children was JOHN LEATHERLAND born 1821 baptised 03.04.1825...who married ELIZABETH BEARDSLEY at Heanor 13.08 .1843.......

Their son JOHN LEATHERLAND born 1850 married HANNAH PARKIN at Heanor (In the registration District of Basford!!) in the second quarter of 1873

Their only child was HORACE 1875...who married Harriet A Jackson April/May/June 1911...........after the 1911 Census which shows him as single......if he had a child with Harriet in 1911..the childe must have ben living with Harriet on the 1911 census........I'll try and find it.

As \i said..this is the bare bones, but does answer all your questions..there are loads of siblings along the line from 1813 onwards.....

Not bad eh!!..after a bad start I'm really happy.

Derek.

Evening Derek, can you take a look at a marriage in 1875 Derby for Fanny Allen to either Joseph Calladine or Thomas Peet and see if she is the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Hough. Pretty please :-D

Derek

Derek Report 15 Nov 2011 21:00

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 15 Nov 2011 21:21

LOL Derek , I will pass on her for now I think as that seems to be the only marriage I could find.

Derek

Derek Report 15 Nov 2011 21:25

Gooner.I'd done the work..and there is no marriage that fits......she is still with her parents on the 1881 Census.........trouble is..I'm not that good on deaths that don't appear in Parish records...
