Yes Peter..Betty is well known as a diminutive for Elizabeth..as in Beth equals....Bettty..John son of Thomas and betty was DEFINITELY baptised in South Wingfield.......whether he was born there is another matter...

He married Elizabeth Chambers at Eckington 09.09.1806.....which usually means her home patch..not necessarily his.....

Morning Derek - How do you feel about the PARKIN family?? Looking for ISAAC PARKIN's parents. Isaac was born approx 1819 possibly around the Heanor area - married Eliza somebody and had HANNAH of course, Elizabeth, Martha, Mary Ann and William.

I have found a Robert Monaghan in1861 married to Ann..born in Ireland and living in Chesterfield..perhaps you have some information about their children in order for me to pin them down....In !871 we have Robert married to "Onny" ????? she also came from Ireland.

ISAAC PARKIN baptised Heanor Derbys 29.07.1819..son of Patrick and Alice Parkin..Patrick. son of Patrick..married ALICE NEWTON 09.03.1819..whilst carrying Isaac!!

Alice was daughter of Edward Newton and Ruth..baptised 14.03.1790

Isaac and Eliza...who's marriage i have not been able to find....had two earlier children in addition to Hannah Elizabeth MaryA and William.....they were Martha 1844 and John 1847.....

Thanks for the info on Isaac Parkin & Alice Newton. Maybe Isaac and Eliza weren't actually married - this wouldn't suprise me considering all the pregnant brides and illegitimate children popping up.

Sorry I have only just got back to you. THOMAS HUNT West Hallam Derbys married Elizabeth 10.10.1781..and Elizabeth is shown in two different entries with different maiden names......HALLAM or WALKER. Could the HALLAM be printing mistake as they were marid in West HALLAM what do you tyhink.

Peter I gave you this information on 20th November....hoping you might know more........unfortunately it will take a trip to Matlock records office to find the truth....which will show the original writtten record....it MIGHT be a mistranscription............but actually both ladies did exist...

Just to make your day Derek :-D. I have discovered 3 trees on Ancestry that state that Gilbert (wait for it) Measham the 1776 :-P is the son of William and Ann Tunnicliffe. On my tree I have them as Gilbert 1747 and Elizabeth Stanley. I am sure I had my information from you on this and it is therefore correct but would you be so kind as to just double check me. Thanks

Somewhere in your records there is a complete list of every Baptism, Wedding, and Burial of every Measham.Meason or near equivalent from the original Repton Parish Records..that I slaved over at Matlock records Office..which includes:

GILBERT MEASHAM marriage to ELIZABETH STANLEY........the only doubt about this marriage is a note...Gilbert Measom.."signed Measham"

I have looked at the various Ancestry trees that give William Measham and Ann Tunnicliff(e).........as far as i can fathom..said William did not appear at Repton until after the death of Ann..where he..I assume the same man..married ELIZABETH MOWBRAY 01.10.1779..where he died 21.02.1828..

The marriage to Ann Tunnicliffe took place at St Oswald Ashbourne 14.02.1773.......where Ann Tunnicliff was baptised 09.07.1752.daughter of Richard Tunnicliff........would be ludicrous to believe this is not the same woman who married William........

The Ancestry tress variously show Ann born 1750 Rocester Staffs...and Ashbourne....

Trouble is i cannot find a birth for William Measham in the appropriate time scale..or an explanation as to what he was doing in Ashbourne..and equally it would take a stretch of imagination to believe that Gilbert and Elizabeth Stanley married 1772 in Repton and did NOT have a child called Gilbert.

I don't have the Repton Records..all my Measham work was done at Matlock..but i always have difficulty in relying on Ancestry Trees...particularly inn this case as there are several Gilbert Measham 1776 entries that admit they don't know his parents..instead of taking the easy way out and chosing a seemingly appropriate best guess at Ashbourne!!
( you may or maynot have been one of the recipients of my scathing report of several Ancetry Trees that have my own MOTHER buried in three different US States.a blatant example of people nicking my Tree and amending it tp prove fictitious British pedigree!!)..my mother is buried in Bristol..I was there!!

having said all that......Richard MEASOM signing as Measham????..others have rejected this obvioulsy....I personall think they are wrong to do so..having had a long affaire with the \repton parish Records.......

I'm going hunting......for bleedin' Meashams!!

:-D, Derek. I know how much you love my family :-D. I too have seen my Dad with a completely wrong Mother and also his birth date and place were wrong on a tree. I sent a message but they told ME !!!! I have the wrong information. Bloomin cheek I think I should know my Dad and Nan better than them. I am trying to dig back through all the information you gave me and I have father for Gilbert 1775 as Gilbert 1747 and Elizabeth Stanley. I can't find any info for William either.

Hello Peter....my "expertise" with regard to Parish Records does not extend beyond about 1911..after which my records are no better than yours........but a quick look at BMD'S........which are Civil Registrations, shows Bertha Bentley and Sydney Thompson were married within the Chesterfield District (which includes Staveley) ..April/May/June 1934.

James Read bn 17.07.1848 moved to Derby between 1881 and 1891 (shown living at 2 Campion Street, Derby) with Wife Mary Ann and family - I'm looking for death records of these and also information on their Grandchildren by Jesse bn 1877 (married Ada Kinnerely12/03/1898) Ellen bn c1901, Eva bn c1902. Would appreciate any help ypu can give. I know Jesse' family moved on to live in Liverpool but have no knowledge of his daughters.

Good morning Eric.......now then..you're right on the edge of my patch time-wise....pre- 1911 i have anything you need..but after that its all down to 1911 Census and BMD,s

1911 Census has the family living at 16 Bowers Buildings, Pye Street, Wavertree, Liverpool.......(I don't use GR Records at all,so \I can't just copy and paste the census..I prefer to do the hard work!!)

EDIT 13.09 Tuesday..........have just found some evidence that Jesse Read died in France 01.07.1916..does this ring any bells???

Yes that's my READ line, Jesse was killed on the first day of the Battle of The Somme. He served with 11th Battalion Notts and Sherwood Foresters, was a Lance Corporal.

Thanks for the advice, I'll move on to the Lancs BMD's for the sisters.

If you are able to search for the deaths of James and Mary Ann, any information would be great.
