Thanks for looking Zoe. I have trawled the death indexes between 1881 and 1891 and found no trace of a death for either Margaret CAUDLE or her youngest son. I feel it is unlikely that they went abroad as she would surely have taken both sons with her. Her sister Emma was also a widow, working as a laundress, so not much wealth there! I haven't yet applied for William Henry Snr's death certificate but hopefully that may shed some light! I suspect that either Margaret remarried, although I can find no trace of that either, or she was 'living in sin' and took her partner's name. Anyway I am grateful for your efforts on my behalf. Kind regards Evie

Thanks so much. 11 Sept. 1858 at Haigh Chruch (I believe St. Davids according to the source I got the photo copy from in the 1980's) Henry Taylor 36 wid Stonemason Residence at time of Marriage; Aspull Father: William Taylor stonemason Jane Winrow 27 spinster no profession Residence at time of marriage: Haigh Father: Henry Winrow collier witnesses: Faith Winrow James Winrow. 1851 Census for Wigan- Here his first wife is still alive. Millgate: Henry Taylor Head mar 30 stonemason Wigan Margaret wife mar 31 Westhoughton William son u 3 Wigan John son u 1 Wigan William Lawson Uncle u 64 watchman Leigh. I did go to the IGI and found a William Taylor Married to Rebecca Lawson in 1813 at St Peter, Bolton Le Moors, Lanc. but I don't know how close this is to Wigan. Also a Henry Taylor born 1/09/1820 in Wigan to William Taylor and Rebecca. The name Rebecca also is carried down to a daughter by the second marriage, Margaret Rebekah. I have tracked the names of the children from both marriges from a book my aunt gave me that has recorded all of the birth dates. I can find no William Taylor in any census, nor a Rebecca (Rebekah) either. So, where do I go from here? Thanks, Denise

Neil Have looked and looked all I can suggest is going through the christian names of children at familysearch.org as they have free 1881 census there and hopefully finding one family with the right names ~ this is time consuming but when things get on your nerves drastic measures need to be taken LOL. Good luck hope you find them but the head likes to change his age that is why I said try to find the children ~ they must be badly mistranscribed somewhere. Zoe

Zoe Report 13 Mar 2006 11:38

Sue Firstly do you have her in the 1901 census with her husband as this should tell us where she was born. How do you know she was born Peckham/Camberwell? What were the details on the marriage cert for both parties please. What did it state her fathers job was on cert or was he deceased? Need to know this so I can ensure I'm on the right track. Zoe

No probs Zoe, your time and effort is much appreciated,, I appear to be drawing a blank as well, on the 1871.81. and 91 her birthplace is shown as 3 diff towns but they are all the same area so I am guessing that the borders changed slightly with each census,, just to make our search even harder Thanks again for your help Nic x

John Where did the marriage take place who were the witnesses as this may help. What were all the details it may be worth doing a electoral roll lookup at the addresses given! Sometimes they do fib on certs & census ~ alot in my family some don't seem to know their names and ages according to different events that happen...LOL It is very possible it is him, he is the only one I can see also Zoe

Zoe, When I was doing research 20+ years ago, because I was going to LDS Family Centers and having to order in the films, I went through and copied all of the surnames of interest at that time. William was not among them. I think I will need to go again and try to find him. I did come up with the names and dates you already have, but didn't know if that is enough to go in, or does one have to get more definitive proof to say that a specific family is an ancestor. I was able to find Henry on the later census, so that is ok. I'm just trying to go back further. On another question, using the IGI can someone order the particular microfilm from the batch number to see the other details, (if any), on a parish record? Thanks so much for the input on this one. When/if you have time I have a few more mysteries. Thanks again for all your trouble and help. Denise
