I find the objection to copying & pasting comments on threads rather strange.

I use Rootschat - as do many others on here - and the facility to copy a previous comment from another member is frequently used on that site.

It's a common feature on many sites and helps to clarify what has actually been said and to help put things into context without deviating from the subject.

For those who aren't happy with having their comments copied, it may be easier for them if they stopped posting them.

Cynthia no worries we have our master class C & Pr on these boards who doesn't miss an op to show off experienced C & P skills. ;-) ;-) <3

NanaSue/Cupcakes, You have asked for clarification with regard to C&P,

Re CupCakes Report 10 Jul 2013 11:09

"Natasha. We need a point clarifying - Copy and pasting of third party postings into a thread"

Natasha has kindly clarified the situation with regard to this matter

Re Community Advisor Report 15 Jul 2013 12:41

"Hi everyone,
I just want to clarify about coping and pasting. It is absolutely fine to copy something you see on another thread. We realise that this could be useful information to another member. However, we don't think it is appropriate to copy and paste the contents of private messages.
Natasha"

You acknowledged Natasha response

" CupCakes Report 15 Jul 2013 13:11

Hi Natasha,

Your comment is noted"

So it appears that C&P is fine as long as it doesn't involve copy and pasting the contents of private messages but you have continued to post comment some of which are threatening, insulting and offensive

It is obvious who most of your posts are aimed at and that in itself is also against GR's T&C's/guidelines for message board use. (You even name me in one post)

NanaSue/CupCakes "What?"

JUST Proves my point,

My reply was to KenSE post on page 3 of this thread

Because I have not QUOTED what and who I was replying to you and everyone else hadn't a clue about what my reply was about

So I will repost to clarify

QUOTE "KenSE Report 8 May 2013 09:56
Perhaps if the opening post of a thread is reported then the whole thread should be hidden and closed for further postings until a decision is made "

I couldn't agree more Ken, its time GR took note and implemented that

Edit, Natasha, As has just been demonstrated above we need a quote function It has also been suggested on the suggestions board, Could you please you put it on your list for consideration.

I'm not worried in the least, in fact, I think you may have misunderstood me as I am quite a dab hand at the old copying and pasting skill.

I think that copying & pasting part of a past comment is absolutely fine and, as I said earlier ( I have copied and pasted it to make my point)

"It's a common feature on many sites and helps to clarify what has actually been said and to help put things into context without deviating from the subject."

I don't know if Roy agrees with me or not, but I think other sites make it easier by highlighting any quoted script so that it stands out more clearly than it does on here.

You had better ask the Master C & P of the boards those kinds of questions - sorry not up my street :-| :-|

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 16 Jul 2013 11:51

AS I said before C&P has absolutely nothing to do with point scoring

It is quoting what has already been said.

As you appear to be constantly claiming it is point scoring then maybe you could advise where I can collect my points and what value they have plus what I can exchange my points for,

Example, do I get a set amount of air miles or can I put them towards my next new car

Master C & P of the boards - keep going you are on a roll here - your appreciation of English is obviously more pedantic than mine - best leave it to one who feels he knows best - I'm bowing out gracefully <3u loads ;-)

Cynthia Report 16 Jul 2013 12:04

Sorry, but I'm a little confused. What kind of questions?

I only asked Roy if he agreed that some other sites have better facilities for C & P than does GR.

Do I take it that you struggle with it CupCakes? If so, I would be happy to go through it with you. I had to be taught and I don't mind helping others.

I think WiseChild has posted the real reason to the C&P strong objections earlier

wisechild 15 Jul 2013 16:20

"Problem with putting something in writing is that you canĀ“t deny it at a later date."

Yes exactly, especially when someone C&P back to you, even more annoying when the poster has gone back and edited the post to change the meaning! !!!

Lessons I don't need - I'm fully up to speed - ta anyway. One can't win a debate with the Master C & P of the boards so there is no need to even try. ;-) ;-)

Hi Roy - I will be including the suggestion of the 'quote function' on my next round-up.
Thanks

Complete and utter waste of time asking questions on this thread as they just get ignored as usual

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 16 Jul 2013 13:00

I can see the usefulness of quoting some short text when commenting on a post so a reader has the gist of what the poster is talking about

What I hate are those using it to prove a point or to deliberately embarrass/target an individual which some members publically do.
