Morning Fiona and All
You are lucky to have sun this morning we have light rain.Mind you yesterday was lovely.
Chris 's main computer has packed up.He has managed to get an appointment at the Apple Store in Milton Keynes at the weekend. It is still under warranty thank goodness.

Sad news this morning. We have just heard that another collegue of Chris passed away yesterday. He was at a different practice. We have known him for a long time .Hannah was at school with one of his boys.A few years ago the middle son was killed in an accident when he was at Uni.So Ann(his wife) has now lost her hubby as well.

I am off to town in a little while and Chris is mending the greenhouse again

Hello Everyone! Much better news today! Nurse decided to give the laxatives one more try, and last night, just before bed, bingo!!!! We both had a much better nights sleep, only waking once, me for a wee and Ian to change his pad, so this morning we are both feeling a lot more chipper!! Same sort of day here Mel as you are having weathewise, but at least it's not cold! Have got a surveyor coming this am on behalf of our 'prospective' buyers!!! well, who knows, 'nothing ventured etc etc' Spose I ought to Hoover, Dyson working WELL! I know, 'hush, someone might be listening!!!'

11.52am

Neighbours father passed away at 8am. They got a phone call from the hospital, but couldn't get there in time.

The regular District nurse came this morning. Not a happy bunny, the way the nurse on Tuesday had packed and dressed the wound. She will have words with her !!!!

Swabs and TESTS all done yesterday afternoon. Still makes me smile, when I think of it !!!

Rain here also, Nasty smash on the M 1 they say they will have to close it. Multy pile up. We are close to Jcn 15. and the tailback is to 13 about 24 miles.

Glad Ian, is free this morning. Just keep the treatment going.

i was born in the mid 40s and i remember all the kids in the neighbourhoiod would collect the 'pop' bottles and return them to the shop to get the refund, 3d a bottle. it only cost from 1 shilling ie 4 x 'pop' bottles to go into the pictures, sometime even adults would resort to this -and people today think they are hard up if they havent got a massive tv and all the gadgets. they really dont know their born.

LilyL Report 10 Feb 2011 14:17

Hi Maria and welcome to the site, it's really nice to see a new name with new memories. I was born in 1943, so I'm only a bit older than you, and I remember well taking pop bottles back to the shop for a refund. I remember too taking a vinegar botle to Boots for a fill up! also belonging to Boots, Booklovers Library! I remember too being respecful of my parents and elders, woe betide cheekiness and bad manners!!! Curiously this didn't scar me for life, or necessitate the need for counselling!! nor did I grow up resenting and disliking my parents, in fact I was extremely fond of them, and very bereft when they died. As you say people today think they're hard done by if they don't have the latest gadgets and at least two holidays a year preferably abroad!!! Surveyor gone now, apparently the roof is in very good order!! so that's a good start!!

Annx

Annx Report 10 Feb 2011 14:17

Afternoon All,

Misty drizzle here now but it was brighter earlier. OH needs a filling, but doesn't mind as the tooth in question has been twingeing at times.

The talk today was quite good and I have learned about a few sites I hadn't used before. There was an exhibition in the foyer about a Leicester artist in the 1800s called John Flower. Some of his sketches and paintings were quite interesting. He tended to paint things that were disappearing from daily life and buildings that were about to be demolished. I loved one of a signpost that was a rough tree trunk with just the sides at the top flattened off to take the flat arm bits with the names on. There was one of a well with a hinged lid and it had a wooden canopy over it with the bucket rope wrapped around a wooden axle thing under the canopy.

Pleased Ian is on the move so to speak. Hope the house survey goes well Liz. Will the fence issue cause any problem with your prospective buyers?

I wonder who that could be Mel? lol,lol

Frank, OH wasn't keen on the M1 trips down to his Luton office because there were always so many accidents and holdups. He said the bit near Northampton was notorious for lorries turning over. He always made sure he'd been to the loo before he set off.......never knew how long they would close the motorway if anything happened. I had a chuckle at your post yesterday........but decided to pretend I didn't see!!!! lol

Shame about Chris's colleague Jane, another one sadly.

I had another dream last night.......weird......I dreamt that something was affecting humans and they were losing all their intelligence and society and its structure was all falling apart. It was every man for himself and you had to bury anything you didn't want stolen. lol OH says my anxiety dreams have reached a new level!!! lol

Welcome Maria........I can remember me and my friend searching for empty bottles to claim the money back on. We used it to go to the pictures with too. We used to look in ditches and all over the place for them!! I wonder why they stopped giving money back on them?

2.32pm

Another friends Father passed away at 12 noon. Two inside four hours. who'e next.???

Maria, I am one of the oldest on here, and they won't let me forget it !!!
.
We use to go round the back of the PUB and pinch the empties, then take them to another off licence and get the refund. We were Eastenders and little bugger# Saturday morning was the ABC club. old 6d. Roy Rogers, Hopolong Cassidy, Gene Autry, and all the old Westerns. We would come from there as either cowboys or indians !!! Our local greengrocer would always have "SPECK"1/2d each, and we could get a bag of chips for 2d with batter bits thrown in.

We often had our arses out of our trousers, and cardboard in our shoes. Cloths that were hand me downs. and far to big. We never complained, because we always had a CLEAN BED and a good belly of food. Not what they have today but you wouldn't leave any with 6 others ready to clear it up if you did. I can't stand all the complaining you hear today, about not having this or that. Be satisfied with life, thats my moto. I'M OFF AGAIN. SORRY GIRLS.
Ann, thats when Plastic bottles came in, and the throw away society.

LilyL

LilyL Report 10 Feb 2011 15:15

Not sure Annx! the surveyor who came today was the same one who surveyed our boundary in the first place, so at least he knew what the story was! the prospective buyers have been told of the 'fence' query, but who knows, could be an issue, maybe not, we shall see.Sorry to hear about your neighbour Frank, as you say 92(?) is a good innings, but even so a death is always sad. Hope Ros's wound heals soon, these things can take ages, different ideas and attitudes between nurses can be a bit tiresome to say the least, I expect it'll sort out these things usually do!!! Waiting for the Fishman, maybe he's not coming today, give it 10 mins, then will have to take something out of the freezer.

Jane, Just reading your post, had me laughing again. Did you work out how my "MISTAKE" happened. ???

Another great memory as a kid was. When we had walked 5 miles to the Lido. Not looking forward to the same walk back, I would get on the bus and when the conductor came round I would ask for a ticket to a place in the opposite direction. He would put you off at the next stop and point you to a bus stop for the bus going the other way. If he was busy or not bothering to collect the fare as you got on, you could some times get two or three stops nearer home.!!!!

Sheepsh## pie tonight with fresh spring greens. I allways add brown sauce, Worcestshire sauce, O#O and gravy powder to mine, with gratted cheese on the potato, nice and crisp.!!!!

I must try to think of some of the other scams we use to get upto as kids. If mine had done half the things I did, I would have brained them !!!

Bara Brith. ( speckled bread)

6oz dried fruit.
8oz dark brown sugar
half pint strong tea (hot)
10oz self raising flour
1 egg.

Soak the fruit and sugar overnight in the tea or the cold dregs from the teapot. Next day sieve flour and fold it into the fruit.
Mix in the lightlyu beaten egg. Line a 2lb loaf tin with buttered paper and then tip in the mixture. Smoothing it well into the corners. Bake in a gentle oven at 150c for 1 and a half hours, cool and store for at least 2 days in a tin so it matures moist and rich. Slice and butter to serve.

Did Ros see what you put Frank??I hope all her Swabs and***** come back clear so she can finally get her injections.
Mel I have half done a bathroom today. Will do the other half tomorrow.I gt too hot lol.I'm not keen on Cil** B**g.I have used it before (can't remember what for) and it did some damage(can't think what now) lol.Have you used something called Grot Buster.it is brilliant on grouting on the tiles in the shower. It don't half whiff though .Makes your eyes water.

Chris has gone to do evening surgery and won't be in until gone 8.He will be getting that suit out again for Johns (Dr) funeral.I have decided not to go.It is too soon after Jenny.Chris is fine about that and he will be going with other colleagues.

My feet are cold.I had to wash my slippers!!!!!!!!!! They were very whiffy lol
I hope they dry soon.

Liz it is good that Ian is more comfortable now. I hope everything gets back to normal soon.

Can't find the Tea Bread recipe!!

The Bara Brith one I put up came from the Country Living Mag years ago and they put to put it in a 1lb loaf tin!!! I took one look at all the mixture in the bowl and put it in a 2lb one.
