It will be my birthday on Thursday but we have had a small celebration today. Took daughter and grand daughter to Kent Life today.
Lots of animals for her and in Aylesford which is one of "my" villages.
Came home to a lovely dinner.
Very pleasant.

I did PM her and urge her to read slowly and carefully!

Mega snow here...so Im stuck here all day. I have a group tomorrow and Wed and will have to cancel....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Porridge today Sylv.....with golden syrup yum......thank you

A lady on the news was talking about her gas bottles (no mains) and it costs her £40 + a week just for heating!

Ive got the central heating blaring out, fire on in the living room and I aint going to be cold for no one or nothing......I dont work full time to sit in the bl##dy cold..

Its a disgrace that people have to go cold in this day and age. Free fuel for pension age people me says....

Forgot to say yesterday............I had the most amazing dream about my dad on Saturday night. It was like I had spent an evening with him. I dont dream about dad so it was a real treat

Gee

Gee Report 29 Nov 2010 08:43

You not got snow darn sarf then Jules?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Nov 2010 08:43

Morning Dea. Definitely porridge today thanks Sylvs! Our heating is off so we have no rads and no hot water! We have a condenser boiler and the outside pipe has frozen. I could climb up the stepladder and pour hot water over the pipes, but hey..... we pay a monthly contract for service and breakdowns - I'm 63 and OH is 74 with heart probs and Parkinsons, so.........we are waiting for the gasman!

This happened last year, so I have enquired as to why they can't insulate these pipes??? Apparently, after the fiasco of last winter, they are now doing this.....at a small charge of course! Meanwhile, OH is washing up with pans of hot water but I really, really, want my shower!

Hopefully, a nice pottering day today as I feel as though the last two days have been manic....(they have!) Still v.worried about my friend, I just wish her doc would admit her to hospital as her husband is struggling to cope.

On that cheery note, I will lug some hot water upstairs for an old fashioned wash down!!!

Gee

Gee Report 29 Nov 2010 08:48

Cyns...come round here and jump in the shower, I'll have a steaming hot cuppa and some toast ready for when you get out

Whats a condenser boiler and why are your pipes outside and not lagged?????

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Nov 2010 09:05

A condenser boiler is recommended as being efficient and energy saving. We had it installed about 4 years ago and it's great as there is a constant supply of hot water....normally! It is fitted in our small spare room upstairs and there is a single pipe which takes the condensation out. It's on a side wall and runs down to a gulley about our kitchen window. It's the condensation which freezes, blocks the pipe and stops the boiler. If we had houses at the back of us, they may have stopped some of the icy winds, but we back onto a field and the wind can be ferocious at times. When you have one of these boilers, you don't need a tank in the loft so you are not worrying about burst boilers up there.

Good heavens, a lecture on boilers at 9am.!!! Right, going to get me 'ot water and 'ave a wash!

Thanks for the offer Gins........:))

Gee

Gee Report 29 Nov 2010 09:08

I dont have tanks either but mine is a 'combi' boiler....is that what you mean?

Constant heat and hot water. Mines in the garage so doesnt get frozen..its a big hairy Italian thing that hums sweet sounds of heat and confort and I love it

And Cyns...Ive already had the most bizzare conversation this morning with a certain lady....about BOWELS!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 29 Nov 2010 12:01

Storage heaters and Bottle Gas fires and cooker for us.And an emersion that was fitted in 1958 and I know that from when it broke down year before last and had to have a new element. The old element had the date on it..Same year I was born!Exactly 50 yrs that element lasted, hope this one does too.Its a combi tank, but of course not one of your modern ones.
I lagged it with old duvets to keep it from having to heat the water so often as we leave it on all the time,I hate not having constant hot water.
Still inches of snow and frozen solid everywhere, but I will have to try and go out today as I have to buy some few things for a certain persons Want list over in Spain...Brrrrrrr.

Hi all
xx

Keep warm all of you

C ............ sorry to hear you have no heat. Hope they have got to you by now, and you are warm. And that you have enjoyed a day of pottering.

Janey ...... had to go and look to see what had gone! Don't work tooooo hard ........... you know what they say about all work and no play!

Dry and 2C here ................ rain on its way.

OH off to the dentist for more major work. He has to be there for 7:50 am so a technician can take 40 ml of blood. They then spin that down to get the white cells (I think that's the bit), then they put those cells into where they are working.

Apparently that helps the implants "take" better.

He takes the bus .............. so has to leave the house at 6:50am

Hence why I am up so early!!

off to have breakfast
