Hi Charlotte...I need a christian name for Bell Harrison.....but cannot find James Bell harrison at the moment.

Have been digging into the Bells the Harrisons and the Stathers..and the Bell Harrisons! as you say..very complicated.

What I can tell you is that the first owners of the Gilberdyke Mill were Nathaniel Bell and his son nathaniel junior..In 1851 Nathaniel senior was 79 and his son 40. Nathaniel junior died in 1898

The bell's were followed by the Stathers.....Harrison Stather followed by his son J.Stather

I'll dig deeper..but I have found an old photo of Gilberdyke Mill and a very poor on of the Bell Harrison family.

Let me know if you know of these.

I'm digging further.

Hi again Charlotte..this is an update to the message below......
I think I've cracked part of the puzzle......

Nathaniel Bell (mentioned below) 1771-1842 of Gilberdyke Mill was the father of:
Nathaniel Bell 1809-1898 whose daughter Elizabeth Bell (1842-1895) married James Harrison born 1835

Bell Harrison was their son.born 1869

He married a Mary and in 1901 had two small children Elsie and irene.

Curious thing is that in 1901 they were living next door to:

James Harrison (born 1871) and his "brother" (brother-in-law?) HARRISON ARTHUR STATHER!!! aged 16 born December 1883

There is another Harrison A Stather born in the village March 1906

I have also found Charles Stather 1883 and a brother John Stather 1880..with a mother Hannah........this may not be the right one becasue there is no mention of Harrison Arthur.

I have a lot of children.and links that i need to sort out..but I need you to tell me which if any of all this is familiar to you.

Hiya Derek

Don't suppose your other "irons" include Sculcoates burials do they?

But if they do, I'm looking for the burial of Jane MORROD twixt 1815 and 1830. She was the first wife of the Charles MORROD.

Hi Charlotte......Ok..taking this slowly and as clearly as i can make it::

You have Elizabeth marrying twice..not so..get rid of one of them and change the details of the other one.

JAMES HARRISON born 08.12.1835..son of James Harrison (1809) and Mary Johnson. (Married 12.03.1827)

James Harrison 1835 married ELIZABETH BELL.and they were the parents of BELL HARRISON.(father of your Irene and Elsie)...leading directly to you...

ELIZABETH BELL was the daughter of Nathaniel bell.and the grandaughter of the Nathaniel Bell who first owned Gilberdyke Mill.details later.

James Harrison 1835 had three siblings:

Mary 1830
Susannah 1833-1869
William 1839

BELL HARRISON son of James and Elizabeth had four siblings:

John William 1864
Mary Ann 1866
James 1871
Minnie 1874-1947

Haven't found the maiden name of Bell Harrison's wife Mary..but she came from Castleford!

yes you have got it irene harrison was my grandmother
bell harrison my gt gt grandfather that much i know is for sure
it's the harrison stather bit that i am wracking my brains at,i can see they lived next door and the stathers ran the mill after my relatives but the name must mean that a stather and a harrison had a child, was he illegitimate?/
all very intriguing and exciting to have a bit of scandal..
my sister remembers very vaguely as she is 15 yr's older that irene never mentioned her parents ever, all very cloak and dagger, but she did inherit a lot of money at some stage...

looking forward to seeing if you can work this riddle out
many thanks

Hi Charlotte..might be getting close!!

Have been chasing Harrison Stather......who i supect might be the father of Harrison Arthur Stather. This could be juicy!!...or entirely wrong.

Harrison Stather son of John and Hannah Stather born 1815..one of a large family..four of which..including him..NEVER MARRIED.

In 1881 Harrison Stather is living at 36 Hull Road.on the corner ofGreen oak lane...ALONE.....a retired farmer........

It just so happens that NEXT DOOR live the Harrison family.

Elizabeth Harrison....now a widow..is living with her children, including Bell Harrison..and with her parents nathaniel and Elizabeth Bell(nee Clarkson).

So who was he knocking off???? the merry widow?????

Harrison Arthur Stather was born 1885 and accepted as one of the family

and (John)Harrison Stather died locally in 1899

I think Charles Stather MIGHT have existed..but did not live long enough to appear on any Census.

oh my god how exciting...especially all those years ago...
guess that would be why my grandmother was such an uptight matronly type..who never mentioned her family then..
i have actually never met her she drowned on the cruise ship lakonia in 1963..well well well
will update my tree later will all the invaluable info you have given me,god knows how you do it,but it is fantastic..
dogs walked now three horses to see to...never a moments peace

this might amuse you when i told my daughter aged 12 that someone way back may have been born out of wedlock she was very bemused as to whyn that may be a problem...how things have changed..

p.s yes have read about the two boys being killed by the sails how very tragic at such a young age..

not sure if a mentioned before but think there may have been a twin related to a harrison..wonder if that's why not showing up..died in infancy...can't remember how i found out..it was on here though

thinking note pad and pen and not scraps of paper might help
