you are so right Carole - an amazing response whch indicates a massive need and I'm so glad you started this thread which hopefully has met the needs of many and will continue to be here for the foreseeable future as I am sure more will climb aboard, unburden themselves and take the helping hand we are all holding out. If there is someone who is unsure about coming on the thread, take a deep breath and jump in - it ain't so bad once you've done it, honest, and we will all club together to help lift your burden and put you on the right road to being happy.

Lots and lots of love, Ann XXX
[clinical depression for over 20 years now and still taking the tablets and still happy!!!]

Oh Carolina - ain't you a good un! I know I'm not just speaking for myself but for everyone else on this thread - we are so proud of you, really we are, and you should be justly proud of yourself. That's a big step you have taken, and this is in no way patronising by the way, you deserve such praise because we all know how frightened you were to embark on this medication. I'm sure you will now go on in leaps and bounds and very shortly you'll be as daft as me!!!!!!
Only joking hun,

Lots of love, Ann XX

Ok chaps and ladies,

My Paternal Gran suffered badly with post natal depression and was sectioned in 1940, ect etc.She was bothered by reactive depression for the rest of her life...she lived to 96, God bless her.

I know other family members, both sides, have suffered too, I feel there is a strong genetic connection. My Dad suffered on and off for years from mainly anxiety, treated with valium in 70s but also with depression at times. He has been on venlafaxine for 4 years now and is so easy going its unbelievable!!

I believe i suffred intermitant depression in my teens but it was after my second son, age 27 , when i had PND that I knew the full impact of depression. I always coped but was so sad and scared inside.

My depression has on the whole been stress related, I keep going, feel i have to be strong. Its hard, tough, scary, when things just get too much. With kids, 5 of them,, OH { who suffers badly with anger and depression}money probs, etc,

But I feel priveledged to call you all mates, we are there for each other,

Hugs,

Caz xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi everyone, I am late on here, unbelievably the ceiling came down in my main bathroom, because the pipes under the kitchen sink in my daughters part of the house (upstairs from me), had apparently never been cemented/glued and leaked steadily from when we moved in in November The upstairs had been empty for 8 months before we moved in.. A little ripple became a small bump and suddenly there was a balloon hanging from the ceiling. In my infinite wisdom I poked a tiny hole in it, which split and down came my beautiful ceiling.
So today I've had someone here fixing plumbing, replacing drywall, hanging my great-aunts corner cupboard, it's starting to feel like home.
Unfortunately the papers are still a work in progress, but there is an end in sight. I am good at tangents.
Just when my "office" (actually a little sunroom), was looking clearer, someone presented me today with several bags of items to post on Freecycle. Her shop is closing and she wants to donate items which had been for sale in her shop. Some lovely Christmas items. I seem to be known for my enthusiasm about freecycling and can't seem to say 'no' when asked to list something because someone else "doesn't have time". Seems I am the personification of the old saying "if you want something done, ask someone who is already busy to do it for you, because they'll know how to fit it in!!" So here I sit, surrounded by tabletop christmas trees, pretty velvet doorknob decorations, bells, etc etc.
I have to second the comment that this thread is like holding hands around the world. I feel like I have some friends out there, with whom I feel safe unloading.
hugs and good night.

Hi Mary, hey you are doing really well, coping with a crisis while sorting papers, and then taking on the freecycling too. I used to be like that, juggling loads of balls in the air at once and letting my own stuff pile up, then it all got too much and its why I am in a muddle. Can't wait to see my new counsellor on Monday and just hope things work out with it so I can find some strength to sort my life out, and move away from this miserable sod I am stuck with. Another boring evening with him He went to bed at 9 with no dinner lol - sulking! He was complaining and moaning, no consideration of the date and my past, said it wasn't relevent to what he was complaining about!!!!!

C.Caz, you will do fine girl, you sound as tho your depression is from similar causes to me now, altho I did have a bit of pmd it wasn't really recognised or treated and things have gone from bad to worse over the years. At least we know what is causing the depression tho, and that is often easier to treat, also I was once told by a psychiatric nurse I know, that if you know why you are depressed, it will be easier to get out of it at some time, especially if you can get rid of some of the problems or alleviate them a bit.
Good luck hon, and all of you posting here. It is a brilliant thread, great support from lovely people.

I've just arrived, Carolina I knew you could do it, I had every faith in you, now you have to have faith in your tablets and tell yourself that they won't hurt you.It is lovely watching people take the steps they were so frightened of, and succeeding. Keep us updated won't you.

I agree Ann, It's lovely to see,I feel like a mother duck encouraging her chicks and forget I am going through it as well. It's helping me in a way I never thought it would. Carolina and the rest will soon be encouraging newcomers to the thread, now that would be something special.

it sure would - know what you mean about feeling like a mother duck!!! me too! I feel a bit of a fraud in a way cos on my medication I am fine and if I have a down day I just double the dose for a while and I'm back on top again!!
