Great that they are acknowledging it

This problem has been going on for so long ......... but it is only NOW that GR is acknowledging that it is THEIR server that is causing the problems

BUT there are many members who never use these boards, but have been suffering the same problems accessing their trees and records. So they will never see the message about contacting support re compensation.

It would be far better to give a blanket extension of membership of, say, 1 month, to all paying members

Folks

Don't get too upset by GR's continuing problems. I started in computing in 1958 and we had problems that lasted for days and days at that time....

GR's staff face the problem of integrating their software with all the browsers that exist - and lets face it there are quite a few today. The reason Barry said to try using IE8 is a temporary work around.

I use Mozilla and experienced the problem circa 5:00 pm yesterday Australian East Coast time, it is still the same now at 10:00 am Tuesday Australian East Coast time.

I always keep IE on my PC even though I do not often use it - its there to purely communicate with MS - yes that ogre. So today I have IE8 open and tried GR and I am into my tree and working, whilst GR staff find the solution of making their programming code compatible with all the browsers that exist ! It was easier when there was only ONE browser but would you like to go back to the time when MS told you what you could do ?

It is wise to always keep a MS product (what they like to think is an Industry standard - ha ha) for the reasons I give above.

BTW, I am not a GR employee, I am 73 and well and truely retired.

Have a good day researching.

I personally would prefer to wait and see how long the problems persist before a decision on the amount of compensation is made.

I too think it should be rolled out across all paying members regardless of whether or not an email is sent to support.

I use Firefox but have been getting this 'maintenance' thingy coming up quite often, then I refresh the page immediately for it to return to GR, I don't understand ! how can it be maintenance one minute and not the next, if servers are being fixed then the no one would get on here because it would be shut!

And!! to add to that, I have added no more than 3 people to my tree since joining because every time I've tried adding more, the site crashes. Bit of a sticky one me thinks.

Has anyone else been getting the big red warning saying "ERROR this site does not exist" when putting GR on first thing. It comes on above GR community page General Chat, I haven't tried the others.

Hi Jude and Yorkshire Caz,

We are still working on fixing the error issue. Would it be possible for you to screen shot the error page the next time you see it and email it to [email protected]

This would be very helpful and very much appreciated.

I have no idea how to do a screen shot. I do know that the error message appeared several times yesterday evening, and I had to sign in just now. I am wasting no more time here today.

Kay???? Report 14 Jun 2011 10:14

you will have a Print Screen to the far right of your keyboard.....press ,,,it will copy to the clipboard in paint programe so this is the place to find it as it will look like nothings happened,,,,,,,,,,,from there you go to flie & save,,,,but may need cropping ? from there you can then send it to where you wish, this includes email......

Hi Jude,

At the top pf your keyboard there is a button that says PrtScr. If you press this it should copy everything of the screen and then if you paste this in an email, I will be able to see the exact error you are seeing.

Thanks

Good morning campers.....and I mean campers...as I've been 'outside'and not able to access this site for 24 hours!!! I use IE8

Sent email to support and have not received an answer.Read on FB that Brightsolid has had trouble with their other sites ie Find My Past etc. not sure if info. is 100% or not.

Feel members should be compensated in some way.....my subscription is due next month too....

Hello Genes, I can only do it if the error message comes back, it only happened once yesterday, to be honest it was more of a laugh than anything else, gave me a giggle anyway, but to say the site doesn't exsist when I'm using it is ridiculous.

Waste of time sending emails to GR

Sent this:

What are the chances of all members getting an extension to their subscription date ?

Or are you only giving "compensation" to members who ask for it ?

Got this back:

Thank you for taking the time to report this problem.

Our technical team are aware of the specific problem that you reported and we will be implementing a solution as soon as is possible. We have made a note of your comment and passed it on to our management team for consideration.

Your patience while we work to resolve this is much appreciated.

Does that answer my question ? Well no it does not !!!!

GR team cant commit to anything I supose ,GR can put a proposal forward and Brightsolid the site owners have the hand to aprove or not.....its BS revenue that will be at a loss.
