Happy birthday sylvia, have a lovely day. Hope Johan's nosebleed stops now. My father used to get bad ones and had to go to hospital to have it cauterized.

Back to the kitchen now, starting on another wall when we have put the firat lot of shelves back up. Another lot of shelves to empty, this time cookery books. why i have so many when I never use them all I don't know?

Jill, glad you are out and about again.

Morning all, well we had snow last night after the torrential rain we had all day, so thank goodness it soon cleared and then we had a frost this morning. Just wish the weather would make up its mind. Lovely and sunny at the moment, but very cold, just how I like it, at least it has stopped raining.
Hope everyone is well.

Very cold here too, ice on the car window this morning but no rain. In fact extremely bright sun which with the wet roads makes driving hazardous. Nice now I am indoors though.
Just bought a new scrap book maazine so will be reading that later.

Hi girls,
Well I had a fantastic birthday in spite of Johan's nose bleed. He had an unsightly long black thread hanging from his nose all day. We have now taken this away this afternoon and removed the prop. Hey, ho bleeding has stopped.
The biggest surprise was when my daughter walked in with an old friend of mine. I had mentioned on the phone that I hadn't seen this friend for a while and would love to see her again. Although she is 82 years of age and drives a car, doesn't like driving as far as I am. She is still very active and cycles a lot. She looks fantastic too. We have had so many good times together and many laughs. She used to have her own house in Spain and we've spent many a holiday with her and her husband, who died a few years ago.
So I had an extra guest for dinner. I made a casserole of pieces of chicken wrapped in ham, inbetween the rolls of chicken pieces of tomatoe and then a herb sauce over and topped with lots of grated cheese. I made this in a foil tray which was easily disposable afterwards. I served French garlic bread, cucumber salad and a lettuce and tomatoe salad with it. Oh, I had homemade tomatoe and vegetable soup to begin and apple strudel ice cream to finish. It was like old times having six of us at the table.
Tomorrow I have two sisters and laws, two brothers in laws, ex son in law and new wife and grandson to visit. Another full house. I have made three cakes and a large pan of soup. I don't know who will be staying for dinner, but have plenty of bread rolls and fillings in house. Of course there is always the Chinese restaurant I can phone in an emergency!
Thank you girls for all my birthday cards, you are so kind to have paid so much detail in making these cards. I love them.
Am feeling a bit tired now, so will say goodnight.

Morning all it is very wet and windy here again today, and so cold. Will have to go and put the heating on again, there again might just light the fire in the sitting room, nice and cosy.
I am trying to catch up on my card making, have got a little behind over Christmas but I think I really need to sort out all my crafting bits they are in such a mess since being packed away for Christmas, especially as OH helped put them away!!!!

Hi all,
Well the last guest has now gone. What a hectic few days I have had and I'm knackered but happy. Even my grandson and his girlfriend turned up today. He is such a busy lad with his work as a cook and still at school 1 day a week. His mother complains that she sees so little of him so feel really privileged.
Even though he has a girlfriend, I still get a kiss and a hug from him. He is 21!
See you tomorrow.

Sylvia, your birthday sounds great fun. I'm pleased Johan is a bit better.

I have posted on the 'other place', as today I was at the In Store shop and they are selling mirror card, flourescent card and reconstruction card (don't know what that is!) at £1 per pack, or £1.79 for 2. I got some last year andit came in very useful for matting and layering, It is cheaper than anywhere else, and although not top quality, it is useful

hello everyone. i do envy you Jill hope you have a lovely time in canada.
Anne, sorry to be dumb, what is the in store shop?
Sylvia as usual your food sounded lovely. glad you enjoyed your birthday.

Jo Jo, Heather hello.

So far today has consisted of me emptying shelves and helping OH empty tops of cupboards in the kitchen as we reach the last stage. had to do it piecemeal because there are so many shelves with ingredients, spices, cookery books on that there was nowhere to put stuff when we emptied the shelf. I now have a large pile of cookery books, many of them hard backs ready to take to the charity shop. I had so many as I used to collect them but if I am honest I always use the same two or three or don't use one at all. I still have two and a half shelves of cookery books left!!

And.... you can't imagine the cobwebs and dirt that OH found on top of the cupboards. I can't reach up there with safety even on step stool and we can't see it so it doesn't get touched ugh!!!! he had to scrub the side over the cooker and hob as it was grease as well as cobwebs. Hope my Mum is not looking down on me she would NOT be pleased!! still it all smells lovely and clean now.

Is IN STORE what was Poundstretchers?

Jo Jo

Jo Jo Report 14 Jan 2008 21:44

Yes Ros, I didn't realise it had changed names! I agree that it is not as good quality as mirri board from say QVC BUT at 12 1/2p per sheet it is excellent value especially for matting and layering and lovely colours.

Evening everyone Hope no one is under water!! It has been torrential here all day, but having said that it has just stopped. Quite a lot of flooded roads, but we are quite lucky as set quite high up. Only problem is our house is built on an underground stream and we have a natural well in the garden, closed over now but would hate the water to rise too high we might just float away!
Jill have a lovely time in Canada.

Hi all,
Ann, try putting newspapers on top of your cupboards and then all you do is replace these when they are dusty and dirty!
Grease is the worst thing in the kitchen.
Well went out shopping today and got caught in the rain and newly blown off my scootmobile. Thought I'd take the short cut home and found a lorry blocking the road. He said road was blocked further so I had to go backwards and back to my original route.
Caught up with some dreaded ironing - six of Johan's shirts. Apart from getting dinner that is really all I have done. Tomorrow it's back to hospital again for echos (sort photos I think).
I wish I had a cuttlebug, but think they are so expensive. Have found somebody on Marktplaats (like EBay) who sells 10 cuttlebug cards for 1,25. I then can finish the rest of the cards myself.
See you tomorrow.
