Why do you say that Sophie?

What specifically is rubbish about the current Genes tree (which isn't really new anymore).

Barry

Barry Report 29 Nov 2013 13:03

When one looks at the comments about the "new tree" since it was introduced it is obvious there are very many members who are unhappy with it and am sure would welcome back the old tree
The GR development team don't appear to take any notice of members complaints/comments/suggestions on these boards, because I suspect they don't read them
I for one have been asking for TWO years for GR to reinstate the old tree printing facility because the one in place at the moment will only print FULL trees of not more 100 names or so and one cannot print at all ancestors or descendants views . I just keep getting fobbed off with what turn out to be empty promises
The last time GR posted on this particular topic was over 10 months ago

Hi Barry,

We take all suggestions on board. It's great to get feedback from the users, comments are passed on to the tech team.

For tree printing, we also work with a partner who offer a 10% discount to Genes Reunited customers:

To Genes

This is the message that has been shown for the last 18 months or so when you try to print a full tree of more than 100 persons

"Whoa ! We just talked to your printer and it doesn't think it can print a tree as big as yours !
We are going to introduce a new print feature soon that will break it down and fool your printer into doing it's job . Crafty!

Until then , you should try printing the Ancestor or Descendants views, and if that still doesn't work properly, don't fret, and wait patiently for the swanky new print feature. It shouldn't take too long "

So what happened to the the swanky new print feature ?

In the meanwhile one can only print FULL trees with a maximum of 100 names ,no Ancestor views ,no Descendant views

The alternative printing by your "partner" is very limited in what they offer and is comparatively expensive
eg Ancestors (£26.95) and Descendant (£37.95)views - maximum 12 generations on the cheapest paper option (my main tree has over 30 generations)

You may read the comments/suggestions from members from time to time and pass them on to the tech team but there is little evidence that anything is being done to sort out the many problems with this "new tree" which have been brought to your notice

I despair !!

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Dec 2013 20:03

Have you EVER been able to print a full tree from on here??

I've never tried .............. but I think people have been complaining for the last 10 years that it wasn't really possible without taping together sheets and sheets of paper!

Barry

Barry Report 3 Dec 2013 21:57

If you are asking me Sylvia the answer is yes and of course one had to glue the sheets together but I got around having too many A4's by just printing Ancestors or Descendants and one could get away with about 6 sheets
With the new tree, the only print you can achieve is a FULL tree but only with not more than 100 or so names If you attempt to print much more than 100 names you get that silly statement from Genes which I included in my last posting

All these complaints about the "New" tree.........and yet we still have it!

"We take all suggestions on board. It's great to get feedback from the users, comments are passed on to the tech team." :-S

I have given up on my tree on here. It is a complete and total waste of time.

There was a time i would recommend this site to anyone and everyone who was looking to build their family tree............

:-( :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Dec 2013 20:06

actually ....................

there is a posting from GR somewhere on these Boards (probably this one) that basically says ...........

........... the old tree will NOT be returned.

it is the "NEW" tree they are working on.

But, as IGP has often said .................... everyone complained about the old tree when it was first introduced

Community Manager Advisor Report 23 Dec 2013 16:55

Hi Barry,

We realise the limitations with printing. We are working on the new tree, but there will not be the scope to print the capacity which you have described.

You are correct regarding the pricing on MyHistory, which we promote as they offer an excellent service to customers and a 10% discount to Genes members. Members are, however, able to use their preferred service.

The team are busy working on a new tree, which we will be able to update you on soon.

Regards,

Shelley

To Genes
Do I understand that the "swanky new print feature" is now dead in the water and that you are working on a completely new tree ?
As I have said before , there was nothing wrong with the old print feature so why "mend" something that wasn't broken and I think the same applies to the "old" tree
The way this site has been managed over the last 2/3 years beggars belief

Keith

Keith Report 24 Dec 2013 13:55

Couldn't agree more with all you say Barry. I joined the site on 1st Aug 2004, and have not touched my large tree since the big upheaval in August 2012. I only stay because I have a large number of sharers, and still get a number of contacts.
Use Ancestry.co.uk, and they even give you a polite thank you when you correct some of their records.
Regards'
Keith.

Barry

Barry Report 24 Dec 2013 15:17

Thanks Keith for your support and you are right about Ancestry - they are always appreciative of any any comments/suggestions /corrections as opposed to the management on this site who have developed fobbing off to a fine art

All comments/suggestions/corrections are raised with the development team. We appreciate all feedback and implement changes/updates where we can, so please keep your posts coming.

To Community Mamager

True to form, you haven't addressed any of my questions in my previous post
I would have thought, with the introduction of a new Community Manager that things would have changed for the better but it seems we are just getting more of the same

Have you given up on the "swanky new print feature" we were promised a long time ago?

Are you in fact working on a completely new tree ?

What does one have to do to get a straight answer?

As I have said. before, I despair

Working on a new tree??

Can you please not just bring back the original "old" tree that members seemed to be happy with?

Tenerife Sun Report 3 Jan 2014 22:05

Since the 'new' tree my late husband is connected to his mother and her predecessors, his sister is connected to his father and his predecessors, his parents aren't connected at all. Everything was okay before the change over. I have to keep jumping about my tree to find info. This had happened to three people in my tree. I asked GR if they knew why this had happened but I didn't get a reply. I tried to sort it out myself but its too much work to delete all their relatives and re-enter them to try and connect them as they should be.
