Hi all
xxx

We've been married just over 43 years,

known each other 51 years as friends (met at uni),

had 6 dinner dates over 2½ years as friends happening to be in the same area of UK at the same time and keeping in touch,

then got serious early November,

got engaged on the next date mid-December,

OH left for Texas 2 months later in February,

we got married just over 5 months after that in August (he returned to the UK for the wedding)

Fans missed another one!

We got engaged on Christmas Eve 1966 and were married 18 months later. Moved down to Oxford for a year cos OH was at college there. We had a flat over the college garages......lino and rugs on the floor and we thought we were living well! The largest spiders I had ever seen inhabited the bathroom.

I worked full time at Lloyds Bank at Carfax and absolutely loved going home to a college full of men!! One was a very larger than life Canadian character who used to drink champagne by the tumblerful. Great fun and a very happy time.

Then back up north where we have stayed ever since.

C

You got engaged very shortly after we did

............. OH arrived back in Chester having finished his teaching job in time to take me to the Christmas school dance at the school where I taught, mid-December 1966

We got engaged after the dance, went to our respective homes and broke the (completely unexpected) news, bought the ring in Chester between Christmas and New Year

....... and spent the next 2 months travelling back and forth every weekend from Oldham to Manchester, with Northwich being my 5 day work week stop!

We got married August 12 1967 ......................... the opening of the Grouse Shooting season, or

.................. Grousing Season as my dearly beloved calls it!

OH had hoped to leave mid-January, but the American Embassy doesn't work that fast ...... they granted him an interview end of January, and he finally left at the very end of February.

So we got a bit more time together ....... but were also very short of money 'cos he had no job, and he knew he would have to support himself for the first month in Texas, as well as getting a flat etc etc, before his first pay cheque came in.

The ring I chose was a little bit more expensive that he could afford ........ so I chipped in the extra

Bebbington!

Old weird Ernest Hill/Monck lived there in1881. ;)

Hill's Cottages on Heath Road. I believe there is a highway going through where they were, now. But ask him whether he has any recollection for me, LK! He's not as old as these other codgers here I think, though ...

I've just been locked out of my Facebook account. To resume access, I have to provide a phone number. I don't have a cell phone, and the chances of my giving Facebook my telephone number are about ... oh, nil.

Anybody have any idea what prompts this? Or how to contact the overlords at Facebook? Or shall I just create a new one ...

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Dec 2010 03:02

Yeah, I should just create a new one. ;)

So I did!
