Hilda is still alive I think she lives in Southport, but the Stan actor died a long time ago.


I used to love Hilda's singing, Ena's hairnet and Albert's flat cap!

You're right Dea....it was a good programme back then.

Stan died before he died in the soap, Hilda is about 86 and is very much with us

Did you know Alan Bradley's (Ritas bully) eye brows are the wrong way around....thick bits towards his ears.

Yes, It was - I used to watch it always - particularly when I left home at quite a young age!

I was born and brought up in Salford which is where the programme started - All these characters were quite real to me and reminded me of 'home'

It has changed a lot over the years and I have now 'lost touch'

I did once hear that the writer of CS got the names of his characters from a local churchyard..........wonder if that's true?

I heard that too Cynths !!

I also heard that the writer of 'Upstairs Downstairs' did it too - perhaps that is the way to go if you are a writer??

I guess I thought it was general knowledge that Canada (and other parts) doesn't get current Coronation Street episodes, and we try our best to avoid reading spoilers.

Well JC the UK wont have much idea of what you watch in Canada, I cant imagine we/I/they think of you watching a soap like Corrie

I always thought Minnie Caldwell was much under-rated.

I remember watching Coronation Street in the early days ... when I was home on holidays!

I did in fact see episode number 1

Mum and dad, and then dad alone, loved watching it.


I think I've mentioned before the very weird experience I had in 1990

went back to the UK 'cos my brother had died, literally dropped dead. Eventually the coroner gave his decision and sis-i-l could go and register his death etc at the Register Office in Manchester.

I went with her, and stood looking out of a window as she dealt with the clerk

Think she did one the other day searching for her dad and thats gone too.

Must not help to look for living people in future when it comes down to the lady concerned married a smith up north and had children somewhere in the country poss London.....Can I find them please? NO not without names and where they were living.....but they are in London aghhhhh give up
